Eugene Shryer

Eugene D. Shryer of Eugene died Feb. 5 of cancer. He was 55. A private memorial service for family was held in Marcola.

He was born Nov. 9, 1953, in Kansas City, Kan., to Eugene and Bessie Burton Shryer. He married Patricia Burbank in October 1996 in Eugene. She died Sept. 14, 2004.

He attended college for two years and gained certification as a licensed practical nurse.

He served four years as a Chinese translator in the Air Force, and served six years in the Army’s medical corps.

He worked as a cabdriver. He lived in Lane County for 20 years.

Survivors include his parents, of Hermitage, Mo.; two daughters, Cheris Whaley of Kansas City and Shannon Rowe of Tacoma; three sons, Eugene, Brian and Glen; two stepsons, Russell Burbank of Springfield and Samuel Claypool of Elizabethton, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Sara Smith of Springfield; two sisters, Barbara Nimz of Shawnee, Kan. and Linda Cavender of Kansas City; a brother, Jerry of Ludowici, Ga.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
