LEABURG — Chelsea Diamond Fernandez of Leaburg died Jan. 10 at age 25. A celebration of life will be held later.
She was born Oct. 16, 1983 in Boston, Mass. to Ruben Fernandez and Karen Diamond.
She graduated from Boston Latin School and attended the University of Vermont. She worked for the Forest Service and as a tree planter and Christmas tree cutter in the upper McKenzie River area.
Survivors include her parents, of Jamaica Plain, Mass.; and a grandmother, Helen Diamond of Arlington, Va.

April 28, 2009: A Celebration of Life for Chelsea will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at White Water Ranch near Leaburg Dam. Directions from Eugene/Springfield: Drive east on Hwy 126 to the Leaburg Dam(3 1/2 miles past Leaburg), turn right, drive across dam then turn right on Fish Hatchery Road. Ival Moore

SPRINGFIELD — The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at the Eagle Point National Cemetery for Ival Allison Moore of Springfield, who died Jan. 5 of age-related causes. He was 87. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 8, at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield.
He was born April 27, 1921, in Yamhill to Wayne and Kathryn Kreps Moore. He married Mary Maher in 1957 in Stevenson, Wash.
Moore served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 in World War II in Europe and North Africa. He worked as a logger, a business owner and a food machinery mechanic.
Survivors include two sons, Clifford Moore of Springfield and Hal Bartley of Jasper; a daughter, Glenna Alkire of Riverside, Calif.; and several grandchildren. His wife died previously.

SPRINGFIELD — A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield for Rudolf Jan “Rudy” Furstner of Springfield, who died Jan. 4 of age-related causes. He was 77.
A reception will be at the funeral home after the service.
He was born Jan. 8, 1931, in Bogor, Indonesia, to Adriaan and Elionora du Pire Furstner. He married Mia Hendriks on May 16, 1953, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Furstner attended college in Indonesia. He was a certified mechanic for Fokker and United Airlines in San Francisco for 22 years, retiring in 1987.
Survivors included his wife; a daughter, Ellen Furstner of Marcola; a son, Roy Furstner of Hayward, Calif.; a brother, Louis of Fremont, Calif.; a sister, Loes Furstner of Holland; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Gladys Jane Hanel of Eugene died Jan. 5 of cancer at age 73. No service is planned.
She was born March 12, 1935, in Dickinson, N.D., to Charles Polensky and Rose Lundburg. She married William Hanel and they divorced after 20 years. She married Howard Dinnell and they later divorced.
She was educated through the 10 grade and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Julie Hanel of Eugene and Darlene Randall of Springfield; a brother, Marvin Polensky of Griggs; and six grandchildren.

Gerald Lee “Jerry” Churchill of Eugene died Jan. 7 of age-related causes. He was 84. A luncheon will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at Emmaus Lutheran Church.
He was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Powell, Wyo., to Jess and Faye Allen Churchill. He married Margaret Brown on Nov. 13, 1948, in Eugene.
He graduated from Powell High School and worked as a cable splicer for a phone company.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Diane Churchill and Gloria Churchill, both of Eugene, and Fay Ann Wilson of Troutdale; and three grandchildren.

CRESWELL — Trudie Jeanice Shiel of Creswell died Jan. 24 of a brain hemorrhage. She was 60. No service is planned.
She was born Oct. 17, 1948, in Modesto, Calif., to Irvin and Virginia Freeman Rice.
She graduated from Texas City High School in 1967 and attended Modesto Junior College and Sam Houston State College. She was a customer service representative for Ward Insurance Agency.
Survivors include her mother, Virginia Glover of Texas; a son, Eric Sears of Portland; two stepsons, George Shiel of New York and Ryan Shiel of Virginia; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Shiel of New York; six sisters, Terri Harvey, Pattie Hanks and Sheri Glover, all of Texas, and Carol Byrd, Karen Crespo and Teri Lynne Rinne, all of California; and two brothers, Michael Glover of Texas and Fred Rice of Washington.

SPRINGFIELD — A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Eagles Lodge in Springfield for Jo Ann Jenks of Springfield, who died Jan. 26 of congestive heart failure and chronic obstructivepulmonary disease. She was 65.
She was born April 28, 1943, in Oregon City to Ben and Dollie Short Shipp. She married Jack Jenks on Sept. 3, 1983, in Reno, Nev.
She graduated from McKenzie High School in 1960 and attended Trend Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper and office manager.
Survivors include her husband; her father, of Springfield; three sons, Dan Baker of Coburg and Mike Baker and Ben Baker, both of Portland; two daughters, Allican Jose of Portland and Rhonda Baker of Coburg; two stepdaughters, Lori McGinnis of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Katheryn Jenks of Rio Vista, Calif.; a stepson, Jeffry Jenks of Alpine; a sister, Nancy Detlefson of Sweet Home; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Kim McCulligan, died previously.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 14 at Norkenzie Church of Christ in Eugene for Joyce Nell Jones of Eugene, who died Jan. 30 of age-related causes. She was 83.
She was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Orange, Calif., to Charlie and Elsie Martin Brown. She married Ted Jones on Nov. 17, 1943, in Alderson, W.Va.
She was a high school graduate and worked as an X-ray technician.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ron of Eugene and Don of La Pine; three sisters, Norma of Springfield, Betty Lou of Eugene and Barbara Sue of Medford; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

NOTI — A celebration of life will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Eagles Lodge in Eugene for Patricia Moffett “Pat” Johnson of Noti. She died Jan. 28 of complications of surgery at age 71.
She was born May 29, 1937, in Eugene to Wallace and Velda Dahlin Moffett. She married Bob Johnson on Jan. 21, 1955, in Eugene.
She graduated from Junction City High School in 1955. She owned the Stitch Niche fabric store in Veneta and worked as a bookkeeper for 17 years.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kristi Roberts of Temecula, Calif., and Paula Goodspeed of Hesperia, Calif.; two sons, Mark of Veneta and Tim of Nashville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Zaida Allen

Zaida Margaret Allen of Eugene died Jan. 30 of age-related causes. She was 91. At her request, a private memorial service will be held later.
She was born June 7, 1917, in Veneta to Dalton and Mabel Curtis Jeans. She married Robert Allen on Aug. 18, 1941, in Junction City.
She graduated from Elmira High School in 1935, then worked as a nanny for the Wayne Morse family. She later worked on the family farm near Cheshire with her husband.
Survivors include three children, Helen Bowman of Eugene, Kathryn Hopson of Creswell and Dale Allen of Elmira; a sister, Leola Burnett of Lebanon; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her husband died Nov. 12, 1975.
