Ruth Hansen

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Eugene for Ruth Ellen Hansen of Eugene, who died Jan. 16 of lung cancer. She was 84.

She was born June 11, 1924, in Bereda, Neb., to Dr. Martin and Pauline Phinninger Ritzen. She married Richard Hansen on Oct. 18, 1944, in Fontanelle, Neb.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Neb., and her master’s degree from the University of Oregon. She taught special education in Brainard, Neb., Arvada, Colo., Orinda, Calif., Richardson, Texas, and Wilsonville before retiring in Toronto.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Richard Jr. of Salem; two daughters, Jo Ellen Sullivan of Eugene and Rebecca Garcia of Ottawa; three brothers, Ralph Ritzen of Kearney, Neb., Leander Ritzen of Fontanelle and Norman Ritzen of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Anita Brand of Fontanelle; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield. Remembrances to Emmaus Lutheran Church or Cascade Health Solutions Hospice.
