Duane Rydstedt

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. April 2 at Eugene Faith Center for Duane Garth Rydstedt of Eugene. He died March 19 of pancreatic cancer at age 53.
He was born July 22, 1955, in Spring- field, Mo., to Dorthia Le-Grande and Bob Rydstedt. He married Sherry Snow on April 24, 2004, in Eugene.
Rydstedt held an associate’s degree in broadcasting from Lane Community College. He worked for Willamalane Park and Recreation District in Springfield.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sarah Rydstedt and Ciera Snow, both of Eugene; three sons, David Rydstedt, Stephen Rydstedt and Sean Snow, all of Eugene; a brother, Daniel of Springfield, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

Naipua Allen

SPRINGFIELD — Naipua Allen of Springfield died March 20 of cancer. She was 67. No service is planned.
She was born June 9, 1941, in American Samoa to Tapuvae and Lemalu Togia Faatiliga. She married Earl Allen in 1973 in California.
She held a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked as a certified nurse assistant in hospitals and care centers in the Los Angeles area, including 40 years at Sunnyside Nursing Center in Torrance, Calif.
Survivors include three sons, Lincoln Barit of Hawaii, Raymond Yohe of Los Angeles and William Yohe of Salem; three daughters, Julie Barit of West Virginia, Maryann Lewis of Elmira and Debra Scanlan of Springfield; two sisters, Fuatai Weeks of Los Angeles and Palolo Hiner of West Virginia; a brother, Tapuvae Faatiliga of American Samoa; 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1992. A daughter, Esther Stone and a son, Ralph Yohe, died previously.

VENETA — Stephen Zemblidge of Veneta died March 18 at age 55.
Zemblidge was born Aug. 31, 1953, in Veneta to Mitchel and Georgia O’Rosco Keal. He married Deborah Steele on Nov. 16, 1974, in California.
He worked for FOOD for Lane County for five years as a warehouseman and truck driver. He previously worked as a mechanic for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Janet Sanders, Ampara Marshall and Brenda Zemblidge; a son, Karl; two brothers, Robert and Mitch; a sister, Kim Bradley; and six grandchildren. A daughter, Stacy Zemblidge, died previously.

SPRINGFIELD — Robert W. “Wayne” Lee of Springfield died March 17 of cancer. He was 61. A private family service is planned.
He was born July 12, 1947, in Osceola, Ark., to L.D. and Olive Tubb Lee.
He worked as an auto mechanic.
Survivors include his mother, Lorane Tubb of Eugene; two sons, Danny and Doug, both of Oklahoma; a daughter, Lauralie Lee of Oklahoma; four sisters, Helen Land of Pittsburg, Calif., Diane Lee of Antioch, Calif., and Carolyn Rankin and Linda Velasquez, both of Springfield; three brothers, Gary, Fred and Terry, all of Springfield; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A daughter, Cynthia Lee, died previously.

Earl Knudsen

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. April 25 at Central Grange Hall for Earl Morgan Knudsen of Eugene, who died March 17 of age-related causes. He was 97.
He was born Sept. 5, 1911, in Shotley Township, Minn., to John and Christine Clausen Knudsen. He married Sarah Hayford in Minnesota in 1935. She died in 1993.
He worked as a truck driver for Oakridge and as a carpenter.
Survivors include a life partner of four years, Pat Kukar; four daughters, Irene Ackley of Gilchrist, Carol Dorfler of La Pine, Janet Knudsen of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Sandra Henderson of Oakridge; a son, Dennis of Beaver Creek; a sister, Bernice Saporito of St. Louis Park, Minn.; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A son, Herbert, died in 2007 and Joy Costello, a life partner of 10 years, died previously.

SPRINGFIELD — Anthony B. Gierke of Springfield died March 12 of cancer. He was 66. A private family memorial service is planned.
He was born Feb. 16, 1943, in England to William and Daisy Woodhouse Gierke. He married LaDonn Jarrett in Portland.
Gierke was a tanker truck driver for Tyree Oil.
Survivors include three sons, Duane Lively, Kevin Lively and Mike Lively, all of Springfield; a daughter, Darla Lively of Springfield; two siblings, Sylvia Svenson of Montana and Albert Ernest of England; and four grandchildren. His wife died Feb. 11, 2008.

Cecil Ashmore

Cecil Frank Ashmore was born in Iron City, near Birmingham, Alabama to Joseph and Alice (Davis) Ashmore. He traveled to the west in 1938, at age 18, as part of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) to Triangle Lake, Oregon. He was paid $30 per month to build roads, bridges, trails and parks under Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal in an effort to stimulate the economy during the Great Depresssion. Of the $30, $22 was authomatically deducted and sent to his parents in Alabama.
In World War II, he joined the Army and was part of the anti-aircraft in the Pacific, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After the war he returned to Oregon and worked for Arnold Powell Logging in Blachly. He enrolled in the Air Force and signed up for active duty in Korea, but spent most of his time in Alaska and Florida as a Staff Sergeant. He discovered his love for planes as a pilot, then
later as a mechanic, and was employed by many different companies in numerous countries from 1955 to 1982: Alaska Airlines and Cordova Airlines in Anchorage, Alaska; Ethiopian Airlines in Ethiopia, Khartoum, Cairo, Athens, Frankfurt and Nairobi, Kenya; Air America in Okinawa and Taiwan; Continental Air in Laos; and Air Trust in Singapore and Malta. Air Trust was a conglomerate owned by Chinese in Singapore which was incorporated with Orient Pacific Airways in Delaware, A United States registry. This was the only way American drilling companies would fly out of the United States during this time in US history. Cecil’s duties ranged from teaching airplane mechanics to airport management.
Cecil retired in 1981 to Tucson, Arizona then returned to Triangle Lake, Oregon in 1997 and finally Veneta, Oregon. He was affiliated with China Post #1; American Club, Shanghai; Soldiers of Fortune Worldwide and American Legion.
Cecil was the youngest brother of three older sisters, Cora Phillips, Clara Sellers and Winnie Logan, all of whom have preceded him in death. He was married to Genevieve Robertson, now deceased, from 1940 to 1949, then Lucille Koch from 1954 to 1996, and by common law to Jean L. Melhorn from 1992 to present. He is survived by nieces Dorothy Roberts of Tucson, Arizona, Frances Cobb, and Jean Fields, and nephew Joe Mosely, all of Birmingham, Alabama.
Cecil, by his request, was cremated and his ashes spread overlooking his beloved Triangle Lake.

JUNCTION CITY — Lloyd Trent Sr. of Junction City died March 15 of cancer. He was 52. No service is planned.
He was born Aug. 7, 1956, in Prineville to Maxon and Tillie Huntley Trent. He married Tammy Somerville on Sept. 24, 1977, in Redmond.
He worked as a long-haul and local truck driver, a ranch hand and a horse trainer.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Tillie Trent; a son, Lloyd Jr.; a daughter, Linda Trent; a brother, Russel of Prineville; a sister, Bonnie Elsmere of Phoenix, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

Joan Miles

Joan Cheryll Miles of Las Vegas, formerly of Eugene, died March 16 of pancreatic cancer. She was 68. A private celebration of life will be held later.
Joan was born June 4, 1940, in Devil’s Lake, N.D., to William and Myrtle Stewart Sagen.
She loved music and singing and worked as an elementary school music teacher in Oregon, Washington and Nevada.
Survivors include her mother, of Eugene; a daughter, Shawn Muller of Terrebonne; a son, Daren of Henderson, Nev.; four sisters, Jayne Fortt of Tacoma, and Jean Bennett, Janet Sagen and Judith Sagen, all of Eugene; two brothers, Jerry Sagen of Eugene and Jack Sagen of Moraga, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

JUNCTION CITY — June “Lorraine” Casper of Junction City died March 14 of age-related causes. She was 88. A private family service will be held later.
She was born March 10, 1921, in Mountain View, Calif., to Forrest and Jessie Lovejoy Francisco. She married Gerald Chapelle in the late 1930s. He died in World War II. She married Clarence “Ted” Landerking in Florence in 1948. They later divorced. She married Dale Casper in the mid-1960s. They later divorced.
She worked on an Alaska pipeline, pulled green chain and was a co-owner of foster homes.
Survivors include two sons, Dusty Landerking of Junction City and Rodney Landerking of Sutherlin; two sisters, Roberta Anderson and Twyla Geer, both of Florence; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
