Mickey L. DeFeo

Mickey L. DeFeo

Mickey Lawrence DeFeo passed away March 9, 2009. Mickey died from complications of post traumatic stress disorder, following his tour of the war on terror in Iraq.  He was 38.

Mickey was born April 15, 1970 in Prince Georges County, Maryland to Armando and Dona (Eichner) DeFeo.  He lived most of his life in the Cottage Grove, Oregon area, attending Cottage Grove High School before enlisting in the US Army National Guard.  He served one tour of duty in Iraq, and it changed him forever.  Your sacrifice will not be forgotten, Mickey.

He would probably rather be remembered for the better times, though.  He was especially proud of his time working as a deckhand on a commercial fishing boat out of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, on the Bering Sea.  It’s a grueling trade, and he enjoyed the challenge and the hard work.

Mickey’s mother passed away in November of 2007.  He is survived by his siblings, Tina Carlile of Springfield; Eddie DeFeo, Linda Fenton and Angelo DeFeo, all of California; and Bonnie Bogan and Carmine DeFeo, both of Maryland.  His mother preceded him in death.

Mickey will be missed. His service was appreciated. He fought a long hard battle. I know he is at peace now. My only regret was not spending more time with him towards the end. I hope the rest of Mickey’s family is able to find comfort in that he is in a better place. Peace be with you Mickey.
    Love
    Joe

I am deeply sorry to read about the death of Mickey today.

At the same time, I learn of the passing of my Aunt Donna.

Mickey was born shortly after my family moved away from PG County to Connecticut.

I never got the chance to meet him in person,
and that is a deep sorrow, for our two families were always, very close.

Mickey was named after his father’s hero,
    Mickey Charles Mantle.

    That always made me smile.

    Angelo, Linda, Bonnie, and Tommy…………

You all always meant so much to me,
and I neer hear from anyone, and it should have never, ever, been this way.

Tina and Eddie, you two most likely don’t remember your cousin Jimmy, you two were very young when we moved, but you all are always in my heart.

I found out about Mickey and my Aunt Donna’s passing while trying to locate Tommy by way of the net.

How come nobody trys to look me up?

    I am easy to find.

    Angelo, Linda, Bonnie, and Tommy…..

    We are family.

I know you all have never forgotten me.

And I never stopped loving you.

    Please write, or call.

    Love,
    Jim Sneeringer~

My sweet and silly little brother Mickey,
Your death has left such a hole in my life. I think about you every day. Last night we attempted to ring in the new year, but did not feel like acelebrating. We also lost our beloved sister, Bonnie. She passed away yesterday morning at 7 am 12/31/09. You are both gone way too soon. I am glad that you and mom did not have to endure this pain.
We’re watching the Ducks play Ohio at the Rose bowl today and wish you were here to cheer them on with us!
To my DeFeo cousins who posted on this site: we would love to speak with you. No one on our Dads side ever attempted to find us either. I, personally would welcome a conversation. Tina

I am so sad to learn of Mickey’s passing. We went to school together at Cottage Grove High School. I had been trying to find him over the years. I recently was going through old boxes and found letters we had exchanged when Mickey moved to Oxnard and then back to Cottage Grove. I thought I’d try and find him one more time. I’m thinking of you Mickey and wish I wouldn’t have lost touch.
