Penny Spencer

CRESWELL — Penelope Reed “Penny” Spencer of Creswell died April 20 at age 64.
Penny was born April 20, 1945, in Tacoma to Allen and Mary Reed Curtis. She married Errol Spencer on Oct. 19, 1963, in Eugene.
She graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1962. She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell as an operator and administrative assistant from 1962 to 1971. She later was an executive administrative assistant in the Springfield School District until her retirement.
Penny is survived by her loving husband; daughters, Marcy McKey of Tigard and Kerry Watts of Arlington, Wash.; by her brother, Bruce Curtis of Anchorage and by five much-loved grandkids.
The family is planning a private celebration of life with inurnment in Valley View Cemetery. Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield. Contributions in Penny’s memory may be made to the Eugene Mission.
Mildred Johns

Mildred Elaine “Millie” Johns of Eugene died April 23, 2009. She was 64.
Millie was born June 9, 1944, in Culp Creek to Frank and Hazel Champion Goddard. She graduated from Thurston High School in 1962 and married Jerry Johns on Dec. 23, 1966. She was a business owner for more than 40 years.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; a daughter, Janet; sons Jeff and Jerry; and six treasured grandkids.

Charlotte Galvin

Charlotte Adelina Galvin of Eugene died April 13 of age-related causes. She was 89. A private family gathering is planned.
She was born July 14, 1919, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Everett and Alma Hellerud Corey. She married William Galvin on Oct. 27, 1942, in Beverly Hills, Calif.
She graduated from Esterville High School in Iowa in 1937. She worked as an assistant to a circuit court judge and later worked for Aerotech in Pasadena, Calif.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandy DeBoard of Eugene and Jan Shelton of American Fork, Utah; a son, Gary of Marina del Rey, Calif.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her husband died Oct. 17, 2004.

Dianne Koenig

Kathryn Dianne Koenig was born February 11, 1937 to Harley and Lucille (Carter) Squires. Her family moved to Lane County, Oregon in 1956. That was the same year she graduated from South Eugene High School and married John Calvin Goddard. They later divorced.
Dianne was a hair stylist and a classy lady. She loved gardening and considered her animals her children.
She passed away April 23, 2009 from a variety of health problems. She was 72.
Dianne is survived by her children, Debra Goldbeck, John Goddard and Rainie Hudson, all of Springfield; siblings Marion McBee of Springfield and Ray Harley Squires of Puyallup, Washington; and by three much-loved grandkids.

Zoltan “Zoli” Mohos

Zoli passed away April 22, 2009, of cancer.
Zoli was born August 14, 1936 in the country of Hungary. He arrived in the United States, in New York City, in 1956. He worked his way across the US doing odd jobs, finally settling in Los Angeles, California in about 1960.
Zoli met Dulcie Ann in 1968. She had six children and they had one daughter together, Beatrice Marlene Mohos, in 1969. Zoli and Dulcie married in 1971 and later divorced. He went to work for Puritan Bakery, working there until his retirement at age 62.
He was a member of the Bakers’ Union and enjoyed camping, fishing, trips to the casino and spending time with friends and family.
He is survived by six step-children, Rodney Hatter of Florence, OR; Shasta Hatter, of Portland, OR; Zendra Nyburg, Crystal Olson and Tina Bergren, all of Springfield, OR; and Deanne Echevarria of Vacaville, CA. He is also survived by 19 much-loved grandchildren, 20 treasured great-grandchildren and 1 precious great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his daughter and by 1 great-grandchild. He also leaves behind many friends he considered his extended family.
He will be greatly missed.
Julia O’Dell

Julia Kenyon O’Dell was born August 18, 1941 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Roger and Katherine (Kenyon) Melancook.
She married Jesse O’Dell in 1960 in Massachusetts. They later divorced. She worked at Hynix microchip plant in Eugene for 10 years, on the production line, doing quality control and inspecting.
Julia passed away April 10, 2009 at her home in Eugene from cancer. She was 67.
She is survived by her son Roger of Hampton, Virginia; by sister Joyce King of Newburyport, Massachusetts and by her half-brother, John Stelter of Redding, California.
Ruby Mathews

SPRINGFIELD — Ruby Mathews of Springfield died April 19 at age 85. A private family memorial service is plan-ned.
She was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Salem. She married Herschel Mathews on March 7, 1942, in Vancouver, Wash.
Survivors include two daughters, Vanessa King of Eugene and Bonnie Lewis of Chiloquin; two sons, Terry of Creswell and Dale of Pleasant Hill; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Her husband died Feb. 5, 2001, and a son, David, died previously.

Betty Plueard

DORENA — A graveside gathering will be held at 2 p.m. unday, May 3, at Shields Cemetery in Cottage Grove for Betty Louise Plueard of Dorena, who died April 11 of age-related causes. She was 81.
She was born May 5, 1927, in Ogden, Utah. She married Donald Lee Fringer in Vale in 1945. He died in a logging accident in 1964. She married Willam Plueard in 1965 in Cottage Grove. He died of cancer in 1979.
Survivors include five sons, Benny Fringer of Longview, Wash., Jack Fringer and Evan Fringer, both of Dorena, Jeff Plueard of Springfield and Doug Plueard of Cottage Grove; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Marie “Beth” Masson of Eugene died April 15 of a stroke. She was 73. No service is planned.
She was born July 30, 1935, in Myrtle Creek to Ernst and Bessie Herndon Wenzell. Her parents died when she was 5 and she was raised by an aunt and uncle, Alma and Henry Dodge.
She graduated from University High School in 1953. She married John “Jack” Masson on Feb. 5, 1956 in Eugene.
She was a homemaker and worked as a fundraiser for the March of Dimes in the 1970s.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff and John, both of Eugene, and Greg of Beaverton; a brother, Fred Dodge of Eugene; two sisters, Berniece Kunkel of Springfield and Mayme Retz of Bakersfield, Calif.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1983.

Susan Kelley

Susan Kelley of Eugene died April 15 of pancreatic cancer. She was 60. No service is planned.
She was born July 6, 1948, in East Aurora, N.Y., to George and Margret Mcall Geib.
She worked for the Eugene School District for five years and for The Arc of Lane County as a special needs teacher for 23 years.
Survivors include four sons, William, Mike, Eric and Brian, all of Eugene; a brother, Jim Geib of East Aurora; and three grandchildren.
