Kenneth Layman
SPRINGFIELD — Kenneth M. Layman of Springfield died May 21 of kidney failure at age 90. A private family service is planned.
He was born July 18, 1918, in Stanwood, Wash., to Rufus and Lutheria Starr Layman. He married Bettie Jean Furness on Oct. 20, 1977, in Winnemucca, Nev.
He earned a business administration degree from Washington State University in 1939. He served as a merchant marine during World War II. He owned and operated Narrows Bowl in Tacoma and the Town Pump Card Room in Mount Vernon, Wash., among other businesses.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Mulhern of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Sandy Swanson of Springfield; two stepsons, Terry Sabin of Grants Pass and Randy Sabin of Simi, Calif.; and 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Linda Carpenter, and a son, Roger, died previously.
