The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene for William Preston Liljestrom of Eugene. He died May 7 of age-related causes at age 88.
He was born June 15, 1920, in Marquette, Kan., to Arthur and Leota Raney Liljestrom. He married Patricia Driscoll on Dec. 30, 1950, in San Diego.
Liljestrom served in the Navy in World War II as a captain of the USS LSM-277 in Okinawa, Australia, Iwo Jima and the Philippines.
He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He worked as a chemical engineer for Olin Matheson and was president of Prestressed Concrete Corp. and SC Service Inc. in Los Angeles.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Patti Presley of Eugene and Karen Liljestrom of Andrew, Iowa; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
