SPRINGFIELD — Madelon Jeanette Perry of Springfield died June 19 of age-related causes at age 90. No service is planned.

She was born Aug. 7, 1918, in San Jose, Calif., to Manuel and Anna Rose Costa. She married Manuel Perry on Nov. 10, 1940. He later died.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol Soares of Campbell, Calif., Rita Guzeman of Placerville, Calif., and Mona DeSando of Springfield; five sons, Deacon of Cottage Grove, Michael and Manuel, both of Springfield, Tim of Kansas and Joel of Vacaville, Calif.; and 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grand­children.

Janet Gjovaag

A private memorial service is planned for Janet M. Gjovaag of Eugene, who died June 19 of ovarian cancer at age 67.

She was born Jan. 17, 1942, in Ellsworth, Minn., to Alvin and Eunice Swanson Nolte. She married Marc Gjovaag on June 24, 1966, in Ellsworth.

She attended August-ana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. She was an elementary school teacher in Minnesota, Wyoming and Eugene.

Survivors include her husband and a son, Eric of San Francisco.

Marcia Trotter

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today, June 21, at SGI-USA Community Center in Eugene for Marcia Harriet Trotter of Eugene, who died June 16 of cancer. She was 54.

She was born Sept. 5, 1954, in Wenatchee, Wash., to Sherwood “Johnnie” and Marilen Hart Trotter.

She held a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Oregon and did her post-graduate studies in special education at the UO. She was a teacher and an artist.

Survivors include her mother, of Missoula, Mont.; and three siblings, Sara Trotter, Deborah Trotter and Hank Trotter, all of Missoula.

Suzanne Fletcher

The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield for Suzanne Eleanor Fletcher, a former resident of Eugene and Springfield, who died June 13 of cancer in Lake Havasu, Ariz. She was 69.

She was born July 26, 1939, near Woodland, Calif., to Richard and Eleanor Anstey Gray.

She married Charles Fletcher on April 20, 1990, in Eugene.

She was retired from her job with Business Men’s Assurance Co. in Eugene and also worked as a secretary at Buell Funeral Chapel.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Robert Bates of Salt Lake City and Rick Bates of Lake Oswego; a daughter, Lisa Gibson of Springfield; a brother, Robert Gray of Tigard; and four grandchildren.

Burial will follow the funeral at 2 p.m. at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Buell Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arlene Johns Memorial Scholarship through the Girl Scouts of America or to the American Cancer Society.

Nona Davidson

HARRISBURG — A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, at Harrisburg Christian Church for Nona Ernestine Davidson of Harrisburg,who died June 4 of congestive heart failure. She was 87.

She was born Nov. 16, 1921, in Luray, Kan., to Walter and Nellie Gray Cochran.

She married Carl Green on Sept. 29, 1940 in Luray; he died in 1959. She married Stan Davidson on June 21, 1963, in Parkdale. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Les Green of Hillsboro; a daughter, Linda Sue Green of Beaverton; two brothers Ralph Cochran of Goldendale, Wash., and Walter Cochran of Parkdale; and five grandchildren.

Ruby Tomlinson

Ruby M. Tomlinson of Eugene died June 12 of multiple sclerosis. She was 74. A family service is planned.

She was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Garfield, N.M., to B.J. and Alma Chastian Gardner. She married Craig Tomlinson on Jan. 28, 1966, in Eugene.

She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Southern Oregon College, a master’s in education from the University of Oregon, counselor certificate from Portland State University and a principal’s certificate from the UO. She worked as a teacher in Grants Pass, as a women’s counselor at Willamette High School and as vice principal at Fairfield Grade School in the Bethel School District. She also was a partner in real estate investing and developing.

Ruby Tomlinson was much loved and respected by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her contagious smile, upbeat attitude, and strong faith. Following a long and courageous 35 year battle with multiple sclerosis, Ruby succumbed to the devastating disease. Ruby’s family wishes to thank friends and staff at Riverpark Nursing Home for their excellent care and companionship.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Craig of Springfield; a daughter, Jodi Sellards of Sierra Madre, Calif; a sister, Mary Lou Blakely of Corvallis; and one grandson. Her first husband, Philip Heydenburk, died previously.

Merrilee Peay

SPRINGFIELD — A celebration of life will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 27 at Island Park in Springfield for Merrilee June Peay of Springfield, who died June 17 of respiratory failure. She was 61.

She was born July 11, 1947, in Lakeview to Walter and Marjorie Stewart Borges. She married Lynn Peay on July 3, 1965, in Lakeview. He died Sept. 12, 2004.

She graduated from Lakeview High School and worked as executive coordinator for the Yellow Ribbon Coalition.

Survivors include two daughters, Michele Marks and Bonnie Warner, both of Springfield; a sister, Verda Alonso of Eugene; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Larry Martin

SPRINGFIELD — Larry Lee Martin of Springfield died June 13 of pneumonia. He was 69. No service is planned.

He was born Oct. 24, 1939, in Tekamah, Neb., to Clinton and Marie McCain Martin. He and his wife, Vickie, were married Oct. 22, 1982, in Benicia, Calif.

He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a diesel mechanic.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Anna Rasberry of Rio Linda, Calif.; a son, Tony of Benicia; two stepsons, Terry Thompson and Michael McVay, both of Springfield; a brother, Lyle of Seattle; two sisters, Shirley of Bellingham, Wash., and Connie Martin of San Diego; and four grand­children.

A son, Mitch Martin, died previously.

Shirley Macdonald

SPRINGFIELD — Shirley H. Macdonald of Springfield died June 11 of cancer. She was 93. A memorial service is planned next month.

She was born April 21, 1916, in Milton, Wash., to Olen and Mable Attwood Hoyt. She married Mel Macdonald on May 19, 1938, in San Jose, Calif. He died Feb. 22, 1985.

She attended Oregon State University.

Survivors include four sons, Bob of Cinebar, Wash., Ken of Puyallup, Wash., Jim of Winlock, Wash., and John of Chehalis. Wash.; a daughter, Sheryl Fox of Springfield; a brother, Bob Hoyt of Auburn, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

John Henninger

SPRINGFIELD — John Robert Henninger of Springfield died June 11 of Alzheimer’s disease. He was 84. A memorial service will be held later in Butler, Pa.

Henninger was born March 3, 1925, in Butler, Pa., to Zeno and Mary Helen Johnston Henninger. He married Catherine Novotny on Aug. 1, 1970, in Butler. She died in September 2006.

He graduated from Butler High School and attended the University of Pennsylvania. He served in the Naval Reserve from 1943 to 1946, on six ships in the North Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean areas. He worked for People’s Telephone Corporation in Butler.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine Nordenson of Eugene; two sons, Zeno of Echternacherbruck, Germany, and John of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three grand­children.
