Everett Stockton Sr.

COTTAGE GROVE — Everett H. Stockton Sr. of Cottage Grove died July 28 of age-related causes. He was 82. A private family service is planned.

He was born Feb. 22, 1927, in Buhl, Idaho, to Willard and Susan Weeks Stockton. He married Betty Jean Adams on Oct. 23, 1948, in Roseburg.

Stockton worked as a contract newspaper carrier for 30 years in Roseburg, Cottage Grove and Sutherlin.

Survivors include a son, Thomas of Cottage Grove; a sister, Opal Holtman of Myrtle Creek; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. His wife died Sept. 14, 2008, and a son, Everett Jr., died previously.

Robert DeMuth Sr.

SPRINGFIELD — A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield for Robert M. DeMuth Sr. of Springfield, who died July 29 of age-related causes. He was 80.

He was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Oriska, N.D., to Matthew and Valentina Bartkowski DeMuth. He married Doris Museta on May 7, 1951, in International Falls, Minn.

He worked for a railroad in Minnesota and later worked for Weyerhaeuser in Springfield until his retirement in 1982.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bob Jr. and David, both of Springfield, and Tony of Jasper; two daughters, Suzanne Brunson of Kansas City, Mo., and Janet Painter of Dellsport, Wash.; two brothers, Ernie of Vallejo, Calif., and Joe of Wellton Ariz.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A daughter, Julie Monks, died previously.

Carlo Anfora

Carlo Anfora of Eugene died July 27 of age-related causes. He was 87. A private memorial service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

He was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Borgiallo, Italy, to Camillo and Maria Malano Anfora. He married Julia Murry on Aug. 11, 1945, in Newport.

Anfora graduated from Albany High School in Albany, Calif. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He worked for Mayfair Markets for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janet Judge of Gresham; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A son, Carl, died in 2008.

Eric Weidanz

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden at Southeast 28th Avenue and Woodstock Boulevard in Portland for Eric B. Weidanz of Oregon City, formerly of the Eugene area. He died July 20 of heart failure at age 48.

He was born Nov. 21, 1960, in Ridgewood, N.M., to Norma LaBeur Joyce.

He served in the Navy for six years and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked as a system engineer for TriMet in Portland.

Survivors include his mother, of Eugene; a brother, Adolph of Connecticut; and a sister, Jane-Ellen of Salem.

Uldine Summers

A memorial service will be held at noon on Aug. 8 at Gilham Community Church, Eugene, for Uldine Summers of Eugene. She died July 26 of cancer at age 84.

She was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Silverton to Harold and Gladys Bye Rudisil. She married Thomas Summers on April 5, 1942, in Lebanon. He died in 1993.

Survivors include three sons, Trent of Lincoln City, Leon of Burlington, Wash., and Harold of Eugene; three daughters, Esther Yamaoka of Eugene, Tina Trotter of Lincoln City and April Blair of Springfield; and 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Deborah Summers, died previously.

Cindy Sherrard

SPRINGFIELD — A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today, July 30, at the Church of Christ at 195 N. Sixth St. in Cottage Grove for Cindy Sherrard of Springfield. She died July 25 of asthma at age 33.

She was born Sept. 8, 1975, in San Bernardino, Calif., to Dennis and Jeanie Wilson Smith.

She worked as a caregiver.

Survivors include her mother, Jeanie Smith of Cottage Grove; her father, of Oceanside, Calif.; grandparents, Robert and Patricia Juristy of Cottage Grove; three daughters, Jessica Sherrard, Miranda Swearingen and Zoe-Jane Patton, all of Cottage Grove; a son, Justin Swearingen of Cottage Grove; a brother, Michael Smith of Raleigh, N.C.; and a sister, Genny Countryman of Oceanside, Calif.

Ricky Jackson

Ricky W. Jackson of Eugene and Springfield died July 19 of kidney failure at age 52. No service is planned.

He was born Oct. 4, 1956, in San Antonio to Silas and Billie Fuller Jackson.

Jackson graduated from Highlands High School in San Antonio. He worked as a caretaker.

He is survived by a sister, Nancy Keating of San Antonio.

Burial will be in San Antonio.

Luella Bertsch

A celebration of life will be held at noon Aug. 9 at 1115 Hayden Bridge Road, Springfield, for Luella Ann Bertsch of Eugene. She died July 25 of cancer at age 69.

She was born April 17, 1940, in Killdeer, N.D., to John and Nesta Kalish Cerkoney. She was married to Donn Bertsch for 28 years. She and her current husband, John Houser, were married for 22 years.

She had a high school education and worked as an interior decorator.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Wendy Turcotte of Eugene; and one grandchild. Her first husband and a son, Randal Bertsch, died previously.

Clarence Wafford

Clarence Wafford was born June 12, 1915 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Henry and Viola (Baker) Wafford.  He married Thelma Irene Jenkins November 23, 1935 in New Mexico, and the following year loaded up the Model T and came to Oregon.  Family legend has it that when they got here they had $5 and a flat tire!

Clarence worked for Weyerhauser for 27 years, retiring in 1977 as a lumber grader.  Not one to be sitting around, he did handiman and maintenance work in his retirement.

He passed away July 27, 2009 of age related causes.  He was 94.

He is survived by his wife of almost 74 years, Thelma; his children, Dewayne Wafford of Eugene and Joy Haynes and Eugene Wafford, both of Springfield; his brother, Chuck Wafford of Springfield; and by eight grandkids, five great-grandkids and four great-great-grandkids.

A private service will be held at Buell Chapel in Springfield with burial at West Lawn Memorial Park.  A public celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Cascade Hospice.

Donald McKay

HARRISBURG — A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Harrisburg Gazebo on First Street for Donald B. McKay of Harrisburg, who died July 20 of age-related causes. He was 83.

He was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Long Beach, Calif., to Donald and Kathryn Williams McKay. He married Eloise Jacobs on June 18, 1954, in Tustin, Calif.

He was a pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II and was awarded the Good Conduct medal. He held a master’s degree in education from Long Beach State University and worked as a college professor in California for many years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Ronald of Los Angeles; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A son, Gordon, died previously.
