A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Northwood Christian Church for Crystal Mae Burk of Springfield, who died Aug. 21 of complications from pneumonia. She was 26.
She was born Oct. 17, 1982 in Eugene to Tim and Lesli Burk Benway. She was a 2004 graduate of Willamette High School.
Survivors include her father of Springfield; and her grandmother, LaDonna Belton of Springfield.

Harry Roberts

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the American Legion in Springfield for Harry E. Roberts of Springfield, who died Aug. 16 of liver disease. He was 60.
He was born May 18, 1949, in California to Harry and Elizabeth Applin Roberts. He married Shirley Skubik on Sept. 30, 1972, in Nevada.
He earned his general education diploma while serving in the U.S. Army. He worked as a farm laborer.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Harry Jr. of Eugene; two daughters, Robin and Mary Roberts, both of Springfield; and two grandchildren.

William Pierson

William James Pierson of Cottage Grove died Aug. 9 at age 73.
A private gathering for family and friends will be held Oct. 11.
He was born Oct. 11, 1935, in North Bend, to William and Irene Adams Pierson. He married Doris Jeanne Eisele on June 11, 1983, in North Bend.
He had an eighth-grade education and spent his career as a logger and mechanic.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Dorthy Smith of Junction City and April Wadsworth of Cottage Grove; sons George Eisele of Roseburg, Edward Eisele of Hermiston, Conrad Eisele of Oregon City and William Eisele of Eugene; a brother, Mort Pierson of Gold Beach; and 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Julianne Marie Calicott

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Living Hope Church in Eugene for Julianne Marie Calicott of Veneta, who died Aug. 18 of ovarian cancer. She was 50.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Marist High School chapel.
She was born Aug. 8, 1959, in Eugene, to Jerry and Patty Brown. She married Richard Calicott.
She graduated from Marist High School and earned her bachelor’s degree for teaching at Western Oregon University. She was a middle school math and science teacher.
Survivors include her husband and her parents; two daughters, Jennifer Marie Calicott and Sarah Christine Calicott, both of Eugene; two brothers, Michael Brown of Pleasant Hill and Tim Brown of Corvallis; and two sisters, Colleen Hallbrook of Albany and Megan Girod of Roseburg. A brother, Mark Brown, died previously.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Scottish Rite Temple in Eugene for Marvin Eugene Loftis of Eugene, who died Aug. 17 of age-related causes. He was 76.
He was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Jay, Okla., to Floyd and Violet Dick Loftis. He married Clara Peck in 1951, and they divorced in 1988; he married Betty Rowden in 1993, and she died in 1994.
He graduated from Yamhill High School in 1951. He was a carpenter and contractor, and did residential and commercial construction in Eugene and Vancouver, Wash.
Survivors include to sons, Marvin Loftis Jr., of Creswell and Tim Loftis of Eugene; two daughters, Jennifer Pipkin of Junction City and Cathy Worthington of Eugene; two sisters, Anna Schroeter of Eugene and Ginger Morton of Pearland, Tex.; a brother, Alan Loftis of Troutdale; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Marion Henderson

A memorial service and potluck will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Asbury Methodist Church in Eugene for Marion L. Henderson of Eugene, who died Aug. 17 of complications from a fall. She was 89.
She was born May 14, 1920, in Flagler, Colo., to Orlie Enoch and Bessie May Allen Burch. She married Joe Henderson on Aug. 9, 1942, in Las Vegas. He died in 1989.
She graduated from high school in Lincoln, Neb., and attended decades of art and craft classes. She worked at Heath’s Wonder Fabrics and at Oakway Fabrics.
Survivors include daughters Jean Marie Henderson-Emery of Roseburg and Peggy Ellen Henderson of Eugene; and a sister, Doris Burch-Jones of Eugene. A daughter, Pauline Rae, died previously.

Floyd Gibson Jr.

COTTAGE GROVE — A memorial service will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today, Aug. 19, at 1710 S. Fifth St., Cottage Grove, for Floyd J. “Butch” Gibson Jr. of Cottage Grove, who died Aug. 14 of complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was 71.
He was born Dec. 15, 1937, in Oakville, Wash., to Floyd and Mary Howard Gibson. He married Sharon Hilton on Dec. 17, 1960. in Reno, Nev.
He was a master carver and retired logger. He worked for Bohemia Inc. for more than 40 years. He worked as a helium balloon logger foreman for Flying Scotsman in British Columbia for five years. He also had a small part in the Disney movie “Chester the Wonder Horse.”
Survivors include his wife; a son, Scott of New York; a daughter, Tammy Cardwell of Cottage Grove; two brothers; and three grandchildren.

Mac Cauthorn

The funeral will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for Mac Cauthorn of Eugene, who died Aug. 17 of age-related causes. He was 93. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s.
He was born Aug. 16, 1916, in Deadwood. He married Doris Cauthorn, who died on May 4, 1998.
He was a high school graduate, and served in the U.S. Army in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He spent his career as a plumber, both self-employed and for the University of Oregon.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Wartenbee; two sons, Michael and Mathew Cauthorn; a brother, Dick Cauthorn; and 20 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia Epperson

Virginia Lee Epperson of Eugene died Aug. 2 of cancer. She was 76.
She was born April 25, 1932, in Rendville, Ohio, to Walter and Hester West. She married James Epperson on June 10, 1951. He died in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Tim of Springfield; a daughter, Sandy Ravas of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Derr of Florida; and six grandchildren.
Don Major

Many of us here in the local funeral industry mourn the passing of our dear friend, Don Major. He was a wonderful man whose heart and compassion left the world a much better place. The following is from the August 8, 2009 Register-Guard:
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at Twin Rivers Baptist Church in Springfield for Don Howard Major of Eugene, who died Aug. 6 of cancer. He was 77. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield.
He was born Oct. 9, 1931, in Lead, S.D., to Ken and Ruby Barber Major. He married Cleone Knepper on June 7, 1952, in Mill Plain, Wash.
Major was the former owner and operator of Major Family Funeral Home. He also was a former owner of Fuiten-Friesen Funeral Home in Forest Grove and former co-owner of Donelson, Sewell and Mathews Mortuary, Hillsboro. He attended high school in Seaside and later attended Powellhurst Bible College, Western Seminary, Portland State University and San Francisco College of Mortuary Science.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Charlene Burch of Eugene; two sons, Ken of Eugene and Jay of Springfield; a brother, Dale of Corvallis; a sister, Pauline Berglund of Tolovana Park; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Remembrances to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church or Twin Rivers Baptist Church. Arrangements by Major Family Funeral Home.
