Darrel Koch

Darrel Koch

Darrel Lee Koch was born March 1, 1937 in Weed, CA to Floyd and Josephine (Ferrington) Koch.

When he was about 3 months old his family moved to Lane County, Oregon, and it was here that he grew up, went to school and raised his family.  He married Lura Marnell Pierzina on April 30, 1960 in Reno and proved himself a very good hubby to her.  Not many young men would marry a woman with four kids, but he–much to his credit–did.  They would have been married 50 years next April.

Darrel Koch obituaries Darrel did all kinds of things to provide for his family, from working in a chicken processing plant to selling appliances and electronics, but he seemed to take most pride in working for himself, selling cars or whatever.

Family and community really mattered to Darrel.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and it was important that his kids and grandkids grow up learning these skills too.  He was a dedicated member of Lost Creek Grace Fellowship in Dexter and he and Marnell gave a great deal of their time to providing for the homeless in our community.  To that end any donations anybody might want to make should be made to The Last Resort, a homeless advocacy here in Eugene.

Darrel passed away October 29, 2009 at Riverbend Hospital in Springfield of respiratory failure.  He was 72.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Marnell; daughter Sherry Willson (and husband Gary), sons John Pierzina (and wife Alice), Ron Pierzina (and wife Jane), Jim Pierzina (and wife Julie) and Darren Koch (and wife Margaret).  He also leaves behind his sister, Dolores Walker, thirteen much-loved grandkids and nineteen treasured great-grandkids.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larry.

A viewing will be held Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 2-3pm at Buell Chapel in Springfield, Oregon.  A private memorial service will be held later.
