Faye Wilson

Faye Louise Wilson of Springfield died Dec. 15 of congestive heart failure. She was 87. No service is planned.

She was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Eula Jones.

She graduated from Long Beach Poly High School. She was a PBX operator for Bell Telephone Co., for several years.

Survivors include five sons, Kerry Vanderpool of Costa Mesa, Calif., Lawrence Roland of Springfield and William Scheffler, Robert Roland and Norman Roland, all of Eugene; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cheryl Van Brocklin

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Cottage Grove for Cheryl Van Brocklin of Cottage Grove, who died Dec. 20 of diabetes. She was 60.

She was born Oct. 15, 1949, in Cottage Grove. She married Gerold Van Brocklin on May 11, 1986, in Reno, Nev.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Angela Payne of Elverta, Calif., Sherry Zimmerman of Dayton, Robin Johnson of Bridgman, Mich., and Amanda Van Brocklin of Eau Claire, Mich.; three sons, Matthew and Michael of Cottage Grove, and Edward of Portland; a sister, Judith Smith of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Mark Smith of Battle Ground, Wash., and Kent Smith of Cottage Grove; and 13 grandchildren.

Dorothy Volk

Dorothy Rose Volk of Eugene died Dec. 17 of age-related causes. She was 85. A private service will be held later.

She was born March 11, 1924, in Canonsburg, Pa., to Arthur and Alba Cocchi Steinstra. She married William H. Marshall in 1946 in Pittsburgh, and he died in September 1960. She married Fred L. Volk on Aug. 10, 1963, in Erie, Pa., and he died in June 2004.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Richard Marshall of Eugene; two stepdaughters, Dawn Kuhn of Eustus, Fla., and Nanette Patrick of Mentor, Ohio; a sister, Violet Marshall of Cranberry Township, Pa.; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, William H. Marshall, died in 1977.

Vera Cregar

Vera Cregar of Eugene died Dec. 20 of age-related causes. She was 86. A celebration of life will be held next summer.

She was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Queens, N.Y., to Dominick and Elizabeth DeVita Raimondi. She married Harlan Cregar on Feb. 14, 1942, in Las Vegas. He died in 1995.

She graduated from Fremont High School in Los Angeles.

She worked as a technician for Hughes Aircraft. After retirement, she volunteered as a senior companion.

Survivors include a daughter, Colleen Cairney of Creswell; and a granddaughter.

Nancy Shaffer

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at Trinity Baptist Church in Springfield for Nancy Ann Shaffer of Springfield, who died Dec. 20 of cancer. She was 52.

She was born Sept. 14, 1957, in Springfield, to Lester and Shirley McConathy Nelson. She married Terry Shaffer on Sept. 25, 1976, in Springfield.

She graduated from Springfield High School and received an associate’s degree from Lane Community College.

She was a medical office assistant.

Survivors include her husband; a sister, Barbara Seabaugh of Springfield; and a brother, Dennis Nelson of Springfield.

Stacy L. Howard Walker

Stacy Lorraine Howard Walker was born October 21, 1954 in San Diego to William and Helen (Howard) Ashton.  Raised by an aunt and uncle, she had lived in Lane County, Oregon for about 30 years.  She was a bartender at The Keg in Eugene for about 15 of those 30 years.  On April 8, 2000 she married Kevin Walker in Carson City, NV.

She was a very sociable person who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, mushroom hunting or just going for a drive in the hills with Kevin.

Stacy L. Howard Walker obituaries Stacy passed away December 21, 2009 from congestive heart failure.  She was just 55.

She is survived by Kevin, by her daughter Darcey Budd-MacDonald, and by her grandkids, Drake and Brianna MacDonald.

Ricky Smith

Ricky Dean Smith was born January 8, 1961 in Eugene, Oregon to Ronald & Joan (Eusted) Smith.

He lived his entire life in the Eugene area, except for the several tours of duty he served in the Marines.  He attended St. Mary Catholic Church and was a black belt in the martial arts.

Ricky Smith obituaries Ricky died unexpectedly on December 7, 2009.  He leaves behind his children, Brianna and Ronald Smith; his sister, Jennifer Smith-Ferguson and his brother, Dale Smith.

A memorial mass for Ricky will be held January 8, 2010 at 12:15 pm at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene.  Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.

Mark Bernhardt

Mark Evan Bernhardt died Dec. 17 after a two-year battle with cancer.  He was 49.  Memorial services are planned for Saturday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Santa Clara Church of Christ in Eugene, Ore.

Mark was born April 5, 1960 in Florence, Ore., to Robert and Roberta Bernhardt.  He grew up in Mapleton, North Bend/Coos Bay and Brookings, Ore., graduating from Brookings-Harbor High School in 1978.

On May 20, 1989, he wed the love of his life, Debbie Odell, and for the past 20 years they have raised two daughters, Nicolle Lee and Danielle Doris.

Mark worked for 17-1/2 years for Farwest Steel in Eugene, first in the rebar Mark Bernhardt obituaries department and then driving truck.  He loved his family, friends, hunting, fishing, swimming, women’s basketball and the Oregon Ducks.

In addition to his wife and daughters, Mark is survived by his father Robert, stepmother Doris, brother Butch and sister RoxAna.

Vincent Zawodny

The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield for Vincent J. “Vince” Zawodny of Springfield, who died Dec. 19 of cancer. He was 83. Inurnment will follow at the church.

He was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Baltimore to Vincent and Frances Buick Zawodny. He and his wife, Nada, were married on Nov. 22, 1945, in Columbia, S.C.

Zawodny served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was an upholsterer and owned his own business, The Pad & Tuft Upholstery Shop.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rochelle Zawodny of Alhambra, Calif.; a son, Vincent of San Gabriel, Calif.; a sister, Geraldine Hummel of Baltimore; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

John Gonzalez

John Joe Gonzalez of Eugene died Dec. 16 of a heart attack. He was 63. A memorial service is planned for after the holidays.

He was born Nov. 13, 1946, in Houston, Texas, to Pedro and Josefina Gonzalez. He married Georgia DuPont on June 10, 1979, in San Jose, Calif.

He graduated from Westmont High School in San Jose in 1964. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1968. He worked as a bus driver for Lane Transit District for seven or eight years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Arturo and Frank, both of Eugene; a daughter, John Gonzalez obituaries Monica Gonzalez of Springfield; his stepmother, Guadalupe Gonzalez of Riverside, Calif.; nine siblings, Jessie, Frank, Joe, Geraldo, Margarita Sevenikar, Cecilia Ramires and Maria Gonzalez, all of Riverside, and Mary Smillie and Pete, both of Sacramento; and two grandchildren.
