Gloria Brown

A celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 24, at Memorial Community Church in Triangle Lake for Gloria Joan Brown of Blachly, who died Jan. 21 of pancreatic cancer. She was 71.
She was born Sept. 26, 1938, in Lemoore, Calif., to Joseph and Mercedes Fisher Mills. She was twice married, first to William Sackett and then to Willie A. Brown in 1978 in Anchorage.
She attended college at Fresno State University and was owner-operator of a restaurant-catering business in Anchorage.
Survivors include a daughter, Valerie Disla of Blachly; two sons, Douglas Sackett of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, and Richard Sackett of Wasilla, Alaska; 11 step-children; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands.

Daniel Thorne

Daniel Thorne of Eugene died Jan. 21 of age-related causes. He was 87. No service is planned.
He was born April 19, 1922, in Newberg, to Elias and Nellie Thorne. He married Avon Chapman on Dec. 31, 1941.
He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945.
He worked in the automobile industry and in automobile sales.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Diane Thorne Piquet of San Bruno, Calif.; two sons, Don of Eugene and Dan of Stockton, Calif.; and seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Peterson Barn in Eugene for Ross Elston Gregg of Junction City, who died Jan. 20 of age-related causes. He was 84.
He was born April 9, 1925, in Waldo, Kan., to Albert and Idabelle Keppel Gregg.
He served as a radioman on a B-24 bomber with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a television repairman.
Survivors include three daughters, Gail Fletcher of Eugene and Sheryl Shipp and Laura Kubacki, both of Junction City; a sister, Kay Burns of Oakridge; two brothers, Vernon of Springfield and Gary of Arizona; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Wanita Hendricks

Wanita L. Hendricks was born October 27, 1928 in Lela, Oklahoma to Luke and Beulah (Smith) Tatum. She married Howard H. Hendricks in 1973 in Burley, Idaho.
Wanita managed apartments and storage units, and before moving to Albany 10 years ago lived in Corvallis for 15 years.
She passed away January 25, 2010 at the age of 81. Wanita is survived by her kids, Bev Davis, Diane Parks, Kenny Lane, Bill Lane, Patricia Cooley, Anita Westling and Connie Griffith; step-kids Terry Hendricks and Debbie Martin; brother Pete Tatum; and by 21 grandkids, 7 step-grandkids and 22 great-grandkids. Howard passed away April 25, 2004, and she was also preceded in death by a brother, Al Tatum; a sister, Viola Divine and a grandson, Chad Morrison.

Robert Sorrels

Robert Sorrels of Eugene died Jan. 19 of age-related causes. He was 88. No service is planned.
He was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Amarillo, Texas, to Asa and Dixie Davenport Sorrels. He married Catherine O. Sorrels Feb. 19, 1953, in Los Angeles. She died Nov. 9, 2003.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and Amtrak as an office manager for most of his career.
Survivors include a daughter, Robyn Turner of Eugene; a son, Thomas Sorrels of Southern California; a stepdaughter, Adele Nuner of West Sacramento, Calif.; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Friendly Street Church of God in Eugene for Gordon Jay Rorke, 67, of Eugene, who died Jan. 17 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and Alzheimer’s disease. He was 67.
He was born Oct. 20, 1942, in Libby, Mont., to Harold and Mabel Rorke. He married Judith Rorke June 10, 1967, in Libby.
He attended high school in Libby. He served in the U.S. Army before a discharge for medical reasons. He worked as a bus driver, millworker and custodian.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Angela Rorke of Eugene and Randi Burdick of Arlington, Texas; three sons, Robin Burdick of Eugene, Jerry Funk of Libby and Anthony Peterson of Portland; two sisters, Juanita Cummings and Loretta Olson, both of Montana; and seven grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at the Elks Lodge in Springfield for Dale V. Dial Jr., of Springfield, who died Jan. 15 at age 51.
He was born Dec. 10, 1958, to Dale Dial, Sr. He married Donna M. Christenson April 20, 2007, in Las Vegas.
He was a drummer for the original Jazz Minors, under contract with Disneyland, during the 1970s and 1980s. He owned Dial Trucking in Springfield from the 1990s until his death.
Survivors include his wife; his father; three daughters, Shannon Piercey of Eugene and Tracy Trammell and Angela Stafford, both of Springfield; a son, Rod Piercey, Jr., of Fresno, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Nina I. Brumley of Junction City died Jan. 17 of cancer. She was 55. No service is planned.
She was born Dec. 4, 1954, in Great Lakes, Ill., to Lorene Crapster and Tom McKinney.
She worked in food services.
Survivors include a daughter, Michelle McKinney Flesher of Springfield; two sisters, Tamie Nolen of Cave Junction and Sherida Proctor of Creswell; and three grandchildren.

Johnnie Caston

A service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Springfield Moose Lodge for Johnnie Baskin Caston of Eugene, who died Jan. 2 of age-related causes. She was 80.
She was born Sept. 1, 1929, in Rhome, Texas, to John Wesley and Faye Relina Greenwalt. She married Gunn Junior Caston.
She was a foster parent.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Fonda Joy King of Springfield; a son, Jess Edward Caston of Eugene; two sisters, Dorsey Pettigrew of Yuma, Ariz., and Freda Nickeson of Independence; two brothers, James and Howard Greenwalt, both of Bombay Beach, Calif.; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A son, Randy Boyd Caston, died previously.

Pamala Friedl

Pamala Jean Friedl was born January 9, 1945 in Eugene, Oregon to Martin and Dorothy (O’Connor) Crabtree.
Pam grew up in the Eugene/Springfield area, graduating from Thurston High School in 1963. On July 11, 1964 she married Sidney Friedl in Springfield. She was a very loving wife and mother, and a homemaker.
She passed away January 14, 2010 at the age of 65 from a sudden heart attack. Pam leaves behind her loving husband, Sidney; daughters Sandra Waggoner of Eugene and Kim Long of Springfield; brother Martin Crabtree Jr. of Springfield and five much-loved grandkids.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Restoration Fellowship, 220 S. 42nd St., Springfield OR 97478.
This has been a very difficult time for Pam’s family and they want to extend a special thank you to all who have shared their love, concern and prayers. God bless you.
