Marvin Bates

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Restoration Fellowship in Eugene for Marvin Edwin Bates of Eugene, who died Jan. 27 of lung and heart disease. He was 72.

He was born Jan. 2, 1938, in Boise to Leonard and Edra Bond Bates. He married Roberta Workman on June 21, 1961, in Reno, Nev. They later divorced.

He attended a trade school in Klamath Falls. He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1960, and was stationed in Guam on the USS Ticonderoga.

He worked at a Weyerhaeuser Co. paper mill.

Survivors include three daughters, Tina Kent of Eugene, Shellie Murphy of Fulton, Miss., and Ginny Pool of Aberdeen, Wash.; a son, Marcus Bates of Springfield; a brother, Gary Bates of Eugene, a half-brother, John Bates of Portland; and 10 grandchildren.
