Roselia Chavez-Collazo

The funeral will be held in Michoacán, Mexico, for Roselia Chavez-Collazo of Eugene, who died April 2 at age 58.

She was born April 2, 1952, in Mexico. She married Romiro Chavez in 1975 in Michoacán.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Ramiro Chavez of Eugene; two daughters, Griselda Chavez and Silvia Chavez, both of Eugene; a brother, Roberto Collazo, and two sisters, Maria de Jesus Collazo and Enrique Collazo, all of Mexico; and three granddaughters.

Burial will be at Flores Cemetery in Michoacán, Mexico. Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield.

Fred Woelfel

Fred Woelfel of Eugene died April 17 of age-related causes at age 78. No service is planned.

He was born Nov. 8, 1931, in Waukesha, Wis., to Ollie and Mary Carpenter Woelfel.

He served in the Navy during the Korean war. He was a hotel owner.

Survivors include a son, Eric of Eugene; a daughter, Lynn Sherman of Vacaville, Calif.; a brother, Charlie of Wisconsin; two sisters, Margaret Carpenter and Mary Gustin, both of Wisconsin; and four grandchildren. A son, Mark Woelfel, died previously.

Barbara Dielschneider Bushnell

Barbara Dielschneider Bushnell was born April 19, 1913 in McMinnville to Frances and Dorothy “Hamblin” Dielschneider.

She married John Corison Bushnell in McMinnville on April 9, 1950.

Barbara owned and operated the family jewelry store in McMinnville for many years.

John died November 5, 1984.  On March 26, 2010 Barbara joined him again.  She was 96.  She is survived by her daughters, Judith Bushnell of Springfield and Carolyn Bushnell of San Rafael, CA and by her son Jack Bushnell of Trout Lake, WA.  She was also preceded in death by her only grandchild, Edward Hildebrandt.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 25th at 2pm at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1465 Coburg Rd., Eugene.  Entombment was at Riverview Abbey Mausoleum in Portland.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Rose McGill Fund (c/o Kappa Kappa Gamma Fund, 530 E. Richard Groshong

Richard Dean Groshong, Veneta, age 56, died of cancer April 9.

He was born June 21, 1953 in Eugene, Oregon to Wilbur and Pearl Groshong.  He married Connie Ellison December 3, 1983.

Rick was a Marine and worked for many years as an auto mechanic at Bill & Gary’s Auto Repair Shop in Eugene.  His hobbies were collecting funny toys, gadgets etc., gardening, hunting and occasionally restoring antiques.

Survivors include daughter Marcia Johnson and granddaughters Makayla and Kelby Johnson all of Springfield, sisters Margie Vonflatern of Eugene, Linda Reynolds and Nancy Standish of Veneta, Judy Sharp of Noti and a brother, Ted Groshong of Salem and many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis McAdoo

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. April 24 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery for Phyllis Fern Gust McAdoo of Noti, who died April 4 of heart failure. She was 70.

She was born June 17, 1939, in Cable, Wis.

She served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include her life partner of 25 years, Donald McAlpin; two daughters, Dena Nielsen and Connie McAdoo, both of Eugene; a son, Douglas of Moses Lake, Wash.; two brothers, Orville Gust of Forest Grove and Robert Gust of California; two sisters, Beverly Gust and Barbara Gust, both of Florence; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Timothy Bates

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at New Life Church in Springfield for Timothy “Tim” Bates of Roseburg, formerly of Springfield, who died April 6 of cancer. A service is planned for later. He was 60.

He was born Dec. 29, 1949, in Eugene to Floyd and Farrell Garboden Bates.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Walton of Springfield; a son, Tim Jr. of Eugene; and two grandchildren.

Christopher Rose

Christopher L. Rose of Springfield died April 4 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 21. A celebration of life is planned.

He was born July 17, 1988, in Eugene to Rick Krohnke and Dorma Jones.

He attended Thurston High School.

He worked as a lifeguard at Splash! at Lively Park and previously worked in construction, millwork and in automobile service shops.

Survivors include his parents; grandparents Merle Jones, Shirley Krohnke and Virgil and Alice Bailey; three brothers, William Rose and Merle Rose, both of Cottage Grove, and Justin Krohnke of Crescent Lake; and two sisters, Trinity Weller of Springfield and Jasmine Krohnke of Crescent Lake.

Lorraine Phillips

Lorraine E. Phillips of Springfield died April 4 of heart complications. She was 78. A memorial service is planned at a later date.

She was born May 16, 1931, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to James and Helen Schneider. She married Anthony Volta on May 29, 1954. He died previously.

Survivors include a son, Harry Volta of Eugene; three daughters, Jackie Kendall of Salem, Nora Giuntoli of Seattle and Tonie Baker of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Brian Colp

April 8, 2010

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. April 17 at Oakridge Assembly of God for Brian W. Colp of Westfir, who died April 1 of lymphoma. He was 44.

He was born May 14, 1965, in Surrey, B.C., to Donald and Barbara Peain Colp. Susan Smith was his life partner for 12 years.

He graduated from Clear Lake High School in Clear Lake, Calif. He was a certified welder, well driller, truck driver and a chain saw artist.

Survivors include his partner; his parents; two sons, Tyler Colp of Westfir and Zack Smith of Oakridge; two daughters, Sabrina Smith of Eugene and Lisa Banninger of Oakridge; a brother, Mark of Lakeport, Calif.; three sisters, Donna White of Los Molinas, Calif., Irene Whillians of Manning, Alberta, and Sharlene L’Arrive of Penticton, B.C.; and one grandchild.

Joe Matthews

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Eugene for Joe Matthews of Eugene, who died April 2 following a stroke. He was 87. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.

He was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Douglas, Ariz., to Charles and Estella Cullivan Matthews. He married Geraldine “Jerry” Chellis on Dec. 17, 1955, in Springfield. She died Jan. 31, 1979. He married Judy Major on Nov. 11, 1995, in Junction City.

He graduated from San Diego High School and attended the University of Oregon, where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1951. He earned a master’s degree in education from Oregon State University in 1962.

Matthews served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, from 1941 to 1946, and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was a teacher and counselor in San Diego and Santa Rosa, Calif., taught in The Dalles and was a teacher and counselor at North Albany Junior High School. He retired in 1987.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Patrick of Joseph, Mark of Cave Junction and Casey of Honolulu; two daughters, Shelley Walti of Hillboro and Monica Dopson of Twin Falls, Idaho; and 12 grandchildren. A son, Terry Matthews, died previously.

Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany. Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield.
