Robert Cook

Robert Aurther “Butch” Cook of Yoncalla died June 18 of emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure. He was 67. A memorial service will be held in August at Cottage Grove Lake.

He was born April 18, 1943, in Cottage Grove to Duke and Eleanor Cook.

He worked as a millworker.

Survivors include three daughters, Kelly Sue Cook and Stevie-Ann Cook, both of Cottage Grove, and Cheri Cook of Yoncalla; a son, Brian Caudle-Cook of Salt Lake City; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Albert Smolic

A private inurnment will be held for Albert Smolic of Eugene, who died July 1 of lung cancer. He was 65.

He was born May 7, 1945 in Boise to Albert and Louise Kozel Smolic. He married Sarah Brewer on Aug. 17, 1968, in Price, Utah.

He graduated from Cloverpark High School in Tacoma in 1963. He served in the Navy and was a radioman in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966 aboard the USS Serrano. He was a pressman for Shelton Turnbull from 1987 to 2008.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Veronica Smolic, Robyn McCraw and Mitzie Bryan, all of Eugene; three brothers, Thomas and Cary, both of Washington, and Kenneth of Colorado; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Tina Bliss-Clark

Tina Gay Bliss-Clark of Florence died June 25 at age 50.

She was born Jan. 24, 1960, in Eugene to Robert and Georgia Millican Bliss. She married William Clark in 1989 in Arizona. They later divorced.

She worked in the travel industry for 25 years.

Survivors include a son, Lucas Clark of North Bend; stepmother, Gail Bliss of Seal Rock; three sisters, Vicky Griffith of Teriton, Okla., Regina Sheythe of Seattle and Tiffany Moon of Eugene; and a brother, Bob Bliss of Cottage Grove.

Her life partner, Conrad Nelson, died Dec. 16, 2009.

Daniel Tucker Jr.

Daniel Nolan Tucker Jr. of Veneta died June 27 of cancer. He was 48. No service is planned.

He was born Feb. 13, 1962, in Eugene to Daniel and Nancy Jones Tucker.

He married Denise Hughs on Jan. 27, 1997, in Veneta.

He worked as a forklift mechanic at Bi-Mart in Eugene for many years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Branden of Veneta; a stepson, Brad Cameron of Eugene; his parents, now of Veneta; and his grandmother, Helen Jones of Creswell.

Pennie Thomas

Pennie Lee Thomas of Eugene died June 28 of cancer. She was 55. No service is planned.

She was born Aug. 4, 1954, in Lebanon to Robert and Doris Lake Thomas.

She held a bachelor’s degree from Blue Mountain College in Mississippi. She worked as a respiratory therapist.

Survivors include a son, Caleb; her mother; a sister, Nancy Fuller of Eugene; and a brother, Dick of Licking, Mo.

Robert Pfaff

Robert Anton Pfaff of Springfield died June 27 of cancer at age 73. A family gathering will be held later.

He was born Sept. 30, 1936, in Mandan, N.D., to Stanley and Rose Russler Pfaff. He married Charlotte Anderson in 1979 in Reno, Nev. She died in July 1996.

Mr. Pfaff graduated from Springfield High School. He worked as a forklift driver for Emerald Forest Products for 30 years.

Survivors include two sons, Robert of Wyoming and Anthony of Eugene; two daughters, Robin Markee and Yvonne Pfaff, both of Springfield; two sisters, Arlene Logan of Eugene and Alice Haskins of Monroe; two brothers, Dick of Gresham and Ron of Eugene; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A son, David Pfaff, and a grandson, Jacob Pfaff, died previously.

Carol Ward

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. July 11 at the London Grange for Carol F. Ward of Cottage Grove, who died June 20 at age 69.

She was born Aug. 18, 1940, in Eugene.

She was a homemaker and worked as a seamstress.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy La­Vassaur of Cottage Grove and Shirley Wheat Waco; a sister, Myrtle Winters of Cottage Grove; her life partner for more than 30 years, Nolan Gagner; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. One grandchild died previously.

Neal Mills, 75, of Eugene died July 5, 2010 of COPD.

He was born in Anthony, Kansas to Ivan and Pearl Mills.  The family lived in Enid, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1953.  They moved to Springfield, Oregon in 1954.  Neal married Nancy Groves in Eugene on February 16, 1957 but they divorced.  He served in the Army from 1957 to 1959.  He was in sales for over 20 years.  He belonged to American Legion Post #83 of Eugene and was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church.  He married Bessie Mead in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie Mills; children Victor Mills of Junction City and Tamara Englizian of Portland; step-children Raelda Kephart of Nevada, Russell Mead of Montana, David Mead of Oxnard, CA and Juanita Young of Eugene; brothers Newel of Eugene, Elvin of Salem, Edwin of Porland, Lonnie of Camas, WA, Gary of La Pine, OR and Patrick of Eugene; and by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by daughter Angela Paseman and step-son Randal Mead.

A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Eugene.

Katherine “Kathy” Doerksen

Katherine Rae “Kathy” Doerksen was born November 18, 1942 in Eugene, Oregon to Howard and Mary (Slipp) Wells.  She married Ralph Doerksen August 31, 1985.

Kathy was a homemaker and foster home provider and lived her entire life in the Eugene area.

Katherine Kathy Doerksen obituaries She passed away June 30, 2010 after a long battle with Cerebral Amyloid Angioapathy.  She was just 67 and deserved better.

She is survived by her loving husband; children David Mitchell and Dana Stalcupp of Eugene and Tracy Niedermeyer of Portland; siblings Carolyn Webb and Howard Wells of Eugene; six much-loved grandchildren and four treasured great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Kathy will be held Tuesday, July 6th from 1-4 p.m. at Buell Chapel in Springfield with a memorial service Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Edward Bumby

Edward W. Bumby of Florence died June 27 of cancer at age 79. No service is planned.

He was born Sept. 18, 1930, in Coburg to Edward and Edna Coe Bumby. He married Georgie Blackwell on April 21, 1955, in Mohawk. She died Oct. 31, 1983.

He worked as a millworker at Champion.

Survivors include his life partner of 23 years, Ardis Hammond; a daughter, Tereasa Goodman; two sisters, Floramay Taylor of Salem and Barbara Emond of Ocean Park, Wash.; a brother, Floyd of British Columbia; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A daughter, Joan Bumby, died previously.
