Ruth Irene Eveland of Eugene died Oct. 20 of age-related causes. She was 88.

She was born April 28, 1922, in Winona, Minn., to Louis and Helen Colton Todnem. She married Raymond Eveland on May 14, 1944, in Mankato, Minn. He died in 2006.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Iowa State University and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Eveland, of Corvallis; three sons, Bruce of Eugene, Todd of Nelson, British Columbia, Canada, and John of Philomath; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

No service is planned. Remembrances to the Ruth Eveland Memorial at Springfield Public Library.

Myrtle Ellen DenBeste

The funeral Mass will be at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, for Myrtle Ellen “Mytt” DenBeste of Eugene, who died Oct. 24 of age-related causes. She was 89.

The service will be at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene. A viewing and rosary will be held from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., and burial will follow the Mass at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Eugene to Lawrence and Maude Emerson Schoen. She married George Foster on June 24, 1942, in Fort Lewis, Wash. She married James DenBeste on Feb. 27, 1951, in Eugene.

A lifelong resident of Eugene, she worked at a Green Stamps store, Chase Gardens and St. Vincent de Paul. Following retirement she was a volunteer with the Senior Companion program and received an outstanding volunteer award in 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Smith of Eugene; three sons, Kenneth Foster of Bellevue, Wash., Stan Foster of Bremerton, Wash., and Robert DenBeste of Pendleton; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Richard Calvin Walker

SPRINGFIELD — Richard Calvin “Rich” Walker of Springfield died Oct. 18 from heart disease. He was 76.

He was born May 17, 1934, in Sturgis, S.D., to Calvin and Agnes Meyer Walker. He married Adeline Robison on Oct. 26, 1957, in Eugene.

He lived in the area for 74 years and graduated from St. Frances High School in Eugene. He worked in the automotive field for decades, as the owner of Pacific Auto Supply and as parts manager for several car dealerships. After retiring he worked on his small farm and for Jerry’s Home Improvement Center in Springfield.

Survivors include two daughters, Geriann Walker of Eugene and Leslie Goudie of Boulder City, Nev.; three sons, Gaylord of Springfield, Rick of Beaverton and Cliff of Toledo; two sisters, Diana Parks of Fall Creek and Maryann Gruber of Spring, Texas; a stepsister, Eula Jean Capron of Sausalito, Calif.; two brothers, Bruce of Gresham and Neil of Turner; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Remembrances to Greenhill Humane Society or Actors Cabaret of Eugene.
