John Ziros

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. March 13 at First United Methodist Church for John Ziros of Eugene, who died Feb. 2 of congestive heart failure. He was 88.

He was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Buckner, Ill., to George and Elizabeth Semko Ziros. He married Lillian Watzelberger on Jan. 11, 1947, in New York City. She died Sept. 13, 2009.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II, including the battle of Okinawa. He was an electrical engineer for 26 years for the city of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Ziros-Smith of Eugene and Gail Benchener of Newtown, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
