A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at the Center for Spiritual Living for Shelley Zavat of Eugene, who died March 1 of myelodysplasia, a rare blood disorder. She was 68.
She was born Nov. 15, 1942, in Iowa to Janet and Benny Zavat.
She graduated from high school in Westchester, Calif., and earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in psychology from UCLA. In California, she worked as a rehabilitation counselor in Mendocino County for developmentally disabled adults and children, and as a job counselor in Sonoma County. During her retirement in Oregon, she became an astrologist and Reiki practitioner.

NOTI — M. Irene Stelting of Noti died March 14 of age-related causes. She was 80. No service is planned.
She was born April 28, 1930, in Midlin, S.D., to Ralph and Grace Whisler Doud. She married H. Edward Stelting in June 1950 in Eugene.
She attended two years at Bible Standard College, majoring in music. She was a homemaker and an accomplished gospel singer.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Dalene Doney of Eugene; three brothers, Ralph Doud Jr., Richard Doud and Ed Doud; two sisters, Natalie Schied and Grace Torres; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be announced later for Carol H. Plant of Eugene, who died March 13 of cancer. She was 76.
She was born June 1, 1934, in Webster County, W.Va., to Garcie and Eula Wyne Hamrick. She married Helmut Plant on Jan. 2, 1957, in Fairmont, W.Va.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Fairmont State College in 1957 and was a third-grade teacher.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Emily Plant of Springfield; a brother, Dan Hamrick of Lexington, N.C.; and a sister, Nancy Hamrick Schmuck of Fairmont. A brother, David Hamrick, died previously.

A private family service will be held for Virginia A. Horn of Eugene, who died March 12 of age-related causes. She was 91.
She was born Dec. 11, 1919, in Wendling to George and Gertrude Slayter Syphers.
She married Wilbur Nystrom during World War II in Cottage Grove; they later divorced.
She married John Horn in 1961 in Reno, Nev.; he died in 1971.
She worked as office manager of the Oregon State University Lane County Extension Service.
Survivors include her life partner since the 1980s, John Perkins; a son, David Nystrom of Cottage Grove; a daughter, Barbara Parmenter of Springfield; and seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Ida D. Hills of Eugene died March 13 of age-related causes. She was 95.
Plans for a memorial service have not been made yet.
She was born Nov. 22, 1915, in Eugene to Harry and Myrtle Buchanan Shelley.
She married Raymond Hill in 1932. He died in 1992.
She attended Pleasant Hill High School and was a homemaker.
Survivors include four daughters, Lee Elliott of Eugene, Pam Slinchak of Vancouver, Wash., Christy Lloyd of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Debbie Bledsoe of Keizer; and 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A granddaughter, Kena Slinchak, died previously.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Buell Chapel in Springfield for Herbert Franklin Ezell of Eugene, who died March 16 of age-related causes. He was 90.
He was born March 16, 1921, in Amarillo, Texas, to Albert and Mary Stump Ezell. He married Eileen Severns on March 21, 1942, in Eugene.
He attended Santa Clara Grade School, Wilson Junior High School and Eugene High School. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. In his early years, he worked at Eugene Fruit Growers. He was an accountant during most of his career.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1944.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Nancy Ezell of Lake Oswego and Cathy Jones of Eugene; and one grandson.
Burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield for Elma M. Schick of Eugene, who died March 14 of age-related causes. She was 97.
She was born June 6, 1913, in Jasper to Myron and Addie Wallace. She married Richard Schick on Oct. 16, 1931, in Eugene. He died previously.
She farmed with her husband in Springfield and Junction City.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynda Wells of Eugene; a son, Gerald of Junction City; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Dottie Cole, died previously.

She was born Oct. 2, 1969, in Springfield, Ill. to Paul and Mary Ruebling Smith.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her father, now of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Tasha Smith of Springfield; a son, Tyrone Jones of Springfield; four brothers, Paul and Curt, both of Vancouver, Duane of Springfield and William of Coos Bay; and two grandchildren.

She was born Dec. 10, 1953, in Salem to Victor and Vera Marble. She married Darold Larson on Oct. 12, 1991, in Springfield.
She was a homemaker.

SPRINGFIELD — A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Church of Christ in Cottage Grove for Vernon Gilster of Springfield, who died March 10 following a stroke. He was 84.
He was born May 18, 1926, in Pender, Neb., to John and Leona Lund Gilster. He and his wife, Darliene, were married Sept. 27, 1947, in Lincoln, Neb.
He worked as a sheet metal fabricator for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Darel Gilster of Springfield and Cynthia Gilster of Orange, Calif.; a brother, Ardell of Pender, Neb.; a sister, Darlene Zobel of Norfolk, Neb.; two half-sisters, Lynette Risor of Wisher, Neb., and Shirly Gilster of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
