SPRINGFIELD — Pearl “Pearly Girl” Garstka of Springfield died April 8 of age-related causes. She was 83. No service is planned.
She was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Globe-Miami, Ariz., to Festes and Mable Campbell.
She graduated from high school in Arizona and worked as a bartender at the Gas Lamp in Springfield and Mannie’s Bar in Eugene.
Survivors include a son, Travis Casto of Eugene; a daughter, Kasiah Casto of Eugene; a sister, June Opal of Eugene; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. A daughter, Sheila Carver, died previously.

Paul M. Lewis of Eugene died March 27 of age-related causes. He was 88. No service is planned.
He was born May 11, 1922, in Philadelphia to D.W. and Mae Lewis.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Missouri University and a master’s degree at the University of Oregon. He was a copy editor at The Register-Guard and worked for the UO Publishing Department.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 22, at First Church of the Nazarene in Eugene for Ronald P. Schwada of Eugene, who died April 16 of complications from multiple myeloma. He was 64.
He was born Dec. 13, 1946, in Columbia, Mo., to Paul and Alta Slabaugh Schwada. He married Lynda Dunn on Nov. 21, 1970, in Gary, Ind.
He held a bachelor of arts degree in business from Olivet Nazarene University. He worked as the manager of office and staff services at Lane Electric Co-op until his retirement in 2009.
Survivors include his wife; his father; two sons, Paul of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Philip of Arlington, Va.; and two granddaughters.

Betty E. Morrison of Eugene died April 8 of age-related causes. She was 93. No service is planned.
She was born Nov. 29, 1917, in Portland to Donald and Maude Barton Morrison.
She graduated from Commerce High School in the mid-1930s. She worked as a supervisor for Western Union Telegraph from graduation until her retirement in 1971.

SPRINGFIELD — Carol Galbo of Springfield died April 12 of cancer. She was 69. No service is planned.
She was born Feb. 4, 1942, in Long Beach, Calif., to Riley and Edith White Russell. She married John Galbo in 1983 in Las Vegas. He died May 20, 2001.
She held a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and worked as a hotel casino gaming dealer and gaming supervisor.
Survivors include a son, Martin Willette of Las Vegas; a daughter, Lorian Willette of Eugene; a sister, Joanne Fellows of Denton, Texas; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Thurman “Vic” Lawson

Thurman “Vic” Lawson of Eugene died April 7 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 82. No service is planned.
He was born Nov. 4, 1928, in London, Ky., to Willie and LuVerna Lawson.
Educated in Burns, he served in the Oregon National Guard from 1947 to 1952. He worked at American Can in Halsey as a millwright for 25 years.
Survivors include three sons, Mark and Robin, both of Junction City, and Larry of Oakland; three daughters, Belinda Looney of Burns and Debi Lee and Libby Roberts, both of Eugene; a sister, Doris Delzer of Oak Run, Calif.; a brother, Ken Vaughn of Redding, Calif.; and 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A son, Thurman Jr., died previously.

James Melvin “Jim” Izett

SPRINGFIELD — James Melvin “Jim” Izett of Springfield died April 11 of age-related causes. He was 91. No service is planned.
He was born March 8, 1920, in Oak Harbor, Wash., to Carl and Vera Cleveland Izett. He married Lois Lesh on April 19, 1985.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and the Army’s 100th Division in the Battle of the Bulge.
He graduated from Washington State University and was a forester.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John of Kennewick, Wash.; two daughters, Jill McCarthy of Boston and Jo Cooke of Redmond; a sister, Helen Odell of Portland; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His first wife, Jean Shaw, died previously.Inurnment will be in Oak Harbor.

SPRINGFIELD — A memorial service and inurnment will be held on Monday, May 30, in Guadalupe, New Mexico, for Dora A. Lopez of Springfield, who died March 25 of age-related causes. She was 87.
She was born April 12, 1923, in Clovis, N.M., to Frank and Aurelia Casaus. She married Orlando Atencio, who died previously. She married Vince Lopez on June 26, 1968, in Oakland, Calif.; he died in 1993.
She completed high school and worked as an inspector for Nahms Bros. for more than 20 years.S
urvivors inlcude a daughter, Jo Ann Enez of Springfield; two siblings, Lucy Carrillo and Jesse Casaus, both of Albuquerque; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was educated in Massachusetts at the Rose Hawthorne School, Cardinal Cushing Academy and Lawrence Academy. She worked as a landscape architect.
Survivors include her mother, of Springfield; a former life partner, Marjorie Juris; three sisters, Mary Roseanne of Nashua, N.H., Clarellen of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Cecilia of South Carolina; and two brothers, Kevin of Lorane and Theodore of North Andover, Mass.

JASPER — A private celebration of life will be held for Don Callis of Jasper, who died April 9 of a stroke. He was 62.
He was born April 10, 1948, in Eugene to Dowell and Mary Hadley Callis. He married Margaret Collins in September 1970; they later divorced.
He studied engineering at Oregon State University and computer science at Lane Community College. He was a computer programmer in Los Angeles. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam war, and also in Okinawa, Korea and in the United States.
Survivors include a brother, Patrik of Bozeman, Mont.; and a sister, Marcia of Springfield.
