Jay L Phillips

A memorial service will be held June 4, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Presbyterian Church for Jay L Phillips, who died May 13, 2011.  He was 70.

He was born November 5, 1940 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Glen A and Venna (Leavitt) Phillips.

He graduated from Meridian High School and attended Boise Jr. College in Idaho.  He married Myrna K. Wright February 25, 1961 in Nampa, Idaho.   He served two years in the US Army, starting August 1963. 

He retired from the railroad after 29 1/2 years working first as a switchman and then as a yardmaster.

His hobbies were hunting, skiing, running rivers, riding his 4-wheeler and snowmobile and, first and formost, fishing.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons James and Michael; 2 grandsons Austin and Connor all of Eugene; 2 brothers Dennis of Alaka and George of Indiana and 1 sister Glenna Pargman of Washington.

Diane Lawson

JUNCTION CITY — Diane Lawson of Junction City died April 15 of cancer. She was 61. A celebration of life is planned on July 31.

She was born July 31, 1949, in Cupertino, Calif., to Alton and Louise Lawson. She married twice.

She graduated from Cupertino High School in 1967 and attended Linn-Benton Community College and Oregon State University. She worked for the U.S. Forest Service for many years, then became a commercial real estate appraiser. Most recently, she was an educational assistant in the Bethel School District.

Survivors include her father of Junction City; and a brother, Lin Lawson of Alberta.

Albert “Al” Dacus

Albert “Al” Dacus of Eugene died April 29 of age-related causes. He was 85. No service is planned.

He was born Oct. 23, 1925, in Jonesboro, Ark., to Alfred and Lue King Dacus. He married Rosalie Rand on June 12, 1970, in Monrovia, Calif.

He was a high school graduate and served in the Navy during World War II in the European and South Pacific theaters. He was an aircraft mechanic in the military, leaving the service as a captain. In civilian life, he worked as an inspector for Southern California Aircraft Co. He owned a roofing business in Texas for more than 40 years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Ellis of Creswell and Kathy Bruns Blaney of Springfield; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A son, Mike Dacus, died in 2009.

Dwain Drongesen

JUNCTION CITY — A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. June 11 at Junction City Fire Hall for Dwain Drongesen of Junction City, who died April 23 of lymphoma. He was 78.

He was born Aug. 10, 1932, in Hay Springs, Neb., to Benjamin and Genevieve Burger Drongesen. He married Nadine Baldwin and Ella Dee Delbeck.

He worked at the plywood mill in Junction City.

Survivors include his stepmother, Doris Boutilier; a brother, Pete of Eugene; and a stepbrother, Bob of Junction City.

Helen Elizabeth Anderson

MARCOLA — A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Marcola Christian Church for Helen Elizabeth Anderson of Marcola, who died May 2 of age-­related causes. She was 89.

She was born March 4, 1922, in Junction City to Charles and Elizabeth Adams Carson. She married James Anderson on July 3, 1942, in Mabel, Ore. He died previously.

She graduated from Mohawk High School in 1940 and attended beauty college. She worked as a beautician and owned her own shop. She worked as a cook’s helper at Marcola Elementary School.

Survivors include two sons, Kim of Buckley, Wash., and Ken of Mar­cola; six grandchildren; and four great-grand­children. One great-grandchild died previously.Burial will be at Eugene Pioneer Cemetery.

Bessie Mae Wheeler

PLEASANT HILL — Bessie Mae Wheeler of Pleasant Hill died April 24 of age-related causes. She was 102. No service is planned.

She was born Feb. 16, 1909, in Yoncalla to John and Clara Williams Fegles. She married Lawrence Wheeler in 1927; he later died.

She attended Pleasant Hill High School.

Survivors include two sons, Stanley and Marve, both of Pleasant Hill; three daughters, Dorris Webber of Kennewick, Wash., Clara Grant of Winston and Evelyn Oliveira of Anderson, Calif.; and 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

Barbara J. “Bobby” Potts

JUNCTION CITY — Barbara J. “Bobby” Potts of Junction City died April 24 of age-related causes. She was 81. No service is planned.

She was born Jan. 24, 1930, in Junction City to Alonzo and Sylvia Powell Harpole. She married John Potts on April 4, 1953, in Junction City. He died Aug. 12, 1987.

She graduated from Junction City High School in 1948. She worked as a dental assistant for 35 years in Junction City and as a child caregiver after she retired.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Olsen of Junction City; a son, Jim of Emmett, Idaho; three brothers; two sisters; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Kristina Marie Meyer-Boatman

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Owen Rose Garden in Eugene for Kristina Marie Meyer-Boatman of Eugene, who died April 21 of melanoma. She was 44.

She was born April 21, 1967, in Bronx, N.Y., to Bill and Margaret Woltmann Meyer. She married Matthew Boatman on July 27, 2007, in Eugene.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Albany and worked in computer technology.

Survivors include her husband; her parents, now of Mahopac, N.Y.; and a brother, William Meyer of Salt Point, N.Y.

VENETA — Rebecca Ann Bennett of Veneta died April 18 at age 29.

She was born May 15, 1981, in Medford to Deborah Jones Winner and John Ahmad. She married Daniel Bennett on Aug. 8, 2008, in Eugene.

She attended some college and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; her parents; grandparents Ted and Lynn Jones; and three sisters, Sharon Hodgkins of Roseburg, and Sarah Hopkins and Rachel Christopher, both of Medford.

Barbara Jean Babcock

FLORENCE — A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. May 7 at St. Mary Our Lady of the Dunes Catholic Church in Florence for Barbara Jean Babcock Trevison of Florence, who died April 22 of complications from cancer. She was 79.Refreshments will be available before the service at 1 p.m.

She was born Aug. 1, 1931, in Los Angeles to Howard and Lucille Kesler Emmerson. She married Robert Babcock in 1949 in Portland. He died in 1999. She married Trev Trevison in Florence in 2001.

She was the executive director for Campfire Girls and worked with the Jackson County Health Department.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Joy Babcock Wright of Eugene; two half-sisters; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A son, Bruce Babcock, died in 1996.
