He was born Dec. 3, 1969, in Eugene to Norma Jean Kelsey.He held a general education diploma.S

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. July 9 at Petersen Barn Community Center in Eugene for James E. “Jim” McCluskey of Eugene, who died June 12 of age-related causes. He was 83.

He was born June 11, 1928, in Pawhuska, Okla., to Daniel and Della McJimsey McCloskey. He married Jean McNeal on Sept. 18, 1954, in Bellfountain.He graduated from Springfield High School in 1947. He worked as a long-haul truck driver.Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Dawn Carlile and Terri Walkup, both of Eugene; a son, Tony of Eugene; two brothers, Delbert of Kent, Wash., and John of Tacoma; and seven grandchildren.Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield. Harvey Pierce Jr. of Eugene died May 16 of age-related causes. He was 83. No service is planned.

He was born May 9, 1928, in Pauls Valley, Okla., to Harvey and Hattie Henderson Pierce. He married Eva Taylor on May 11, 1946, in Texas.He worked as a heavy-equipment operator before owning Abbington Steel in Dayton, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Danny Pierce and Gary Pierce, both of Eugene, and Jim Baker of Redmond; two daughters, Frances Baker of Redmond and Connie Pierce of Eugene; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. One grandson died previously.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today, May 25, at Eastside Faith Center in Eugene for Sarah Naomi DeLeon of Springfield, who died May 20 at age 33.

She was born Aug. 4, 1977, in Dallas, Texas, to Albert and Sarah Gryder Nicholson.She graduated from Thurston High School in Springfield in 1995. She worked for Springfield Utility Board for 10 years.

Wilhelmina Hannah “Mina” Burnett of Eugene died May 17 of age-related causes. She was 93. A private celebration is planned in June.

She was born May 9, 1918, in Elgin to Earl and Emma Phillips. She married Vernon Burnett on Nov. 29, 1935, in Walla Walla, Wash. He died in December 1994.She worked as a secretary in Pendleton and retired after 25 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Crane of Eugene; a son, Jerry of Corvallis; four grand­children; and 21 great-grandchildren. Roberta Bonson of Eugene died May 11 of age-­related causes. She was 86. A private service is planned.

She was born July 26, 1924, in Eugene. She was married to Louis “Frank” Bonson III for 30 years. He died previously.She graduated from Stevens College. She worked in the medical field at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan and Sally, both of Eugene; a son, Roger of Eugene; a sister, Joy Leader of California; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Janice J. Bloom

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Veneta for Janice Jean Bloom of Crow, who died May 19 of age-related causes. She was 75.

She was born May 21, 1935, in Cottage Grove. She married L. Stanley Bloom on May 22, 1951, in Eugene. He died Dec. 12, 2007.She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Clifford of Myrtle Point; three daughters, Denise McCoy and Lisa Montgomery, both of Crow, and Kelly O’Con of Junction City; a brother, Fred Warren of Crow; four sisters, Susan Wise of Bend, Beverly Willie and Teresa Christy, both of Eugene, and Marlene Hooker of Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

SPRINGFIELD — Sherry Anderson of Springfield died May 5 following a heart attack. She was 62. No service is planned.

She was born Jan. 9, 1949, in Lynwood, Calif., to Mary and Jack Denovan. She married Dale Anderson in 1969. They were married for 16 years.She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Prentiss of Springfield and Connie Schrag of Coos Bay; her life partner, Harold Brown; a stepdaughter, Lisa Waldal of Portland; a sister, Margie Watson of California; and eight grandchildren.

Paul L. Schwada

A celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at First Church of the Nazarene in Eugene for Paul L. Schwada of Eugene, who died May 18 of age-related causes. He was 98.

He was born Sept. 28, 1912, in Tyrone, Okla., to William and Grace Foster Schwada.He earned a Ph.D. in education from the University of Illinois in 1964. He was professor and dean of students at Olivet Nazarene College in Bourbonnais, Ill., from 1948 to 1969 and professor of education at Seattle Pacific University from 1969 to 1977.

Survivors include two grandsons and two great-granddaughters.He was preceded in death by his former wives, C. Alta Schwada in 1993 and Pauline Schwada in 2000. His son, Ronald, died in 2011.Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Services in Springfield. Remembrances to First Church of the Nazarene Education Scholarship Fund.

Jay L. Phillips

A memorial service will at 1 p.m. June 4 at Peace Presbyterian Church for Jay L. Phillips of Eugene, who died May 13 of kidney failure. He was 70.

He was born Nov. 5, 1940, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Glen and Venna Leavitt Phillips. He married Myrna Wright on Feb. 25, 1961 in Nampa, Idaho.He graduated from Meridian High School in Idaho in 1959 and attended Boise Junior College for a year. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 29½ years, first as a switchman and then as yardmaster.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James and Michael, both of Eugene; two brothers, Dennis of Fairbanks, Alaska and George of Danville, Ind.; a sister, Glenna Pargman of Newport, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
