John H. Myers

SPRINGFIELD — John Herbert Myers of Springfield died May 13 of age-related causes. He was 87. A celebration of life is planned for a later date.

He was born April 6, 1924, in Chicago to Herbert and Rose Preston Myers. He married Jean Williamson in 1949 or 1950; they later divorced. He married Phyllis Murphy on Nov. 3, 1974, in San Rafael, Calif.He held a master’s degree from Indiana University and worked toward a doctorate at the University of Southern California. He was a music professor at the (Community) College of Marin in Kentfield, Calif., for 22 years.

Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter, Mary Sue Yeager of Tulare, Calif.; a stepson, Charles Murphy of Eugene; two sisters, Mary Lagerquist of Eugene and Kate Wilson of San Francisco; four step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. A son, Russell Myers, died in 2011.

Lora Johnson

The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, at Marcola Pioneer Cemetery for Lora Johnson of Marcola, who died May 18 of age-related causes. She was 94. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, May 23, at Buell Chapel in Springfield.

She was born March 22, 1917, in Bowersville, Ga., to William and Mary Nichols Rochester. She married Dewitt Johnson on Oct. 21, 1933, in Walhalla, S.C.; he died July 6, 1991.She was a motel maid and homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Carl of Glenville, N.C.; a daughter, Grace Leopard of Marcola; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Services in Springfield. Remembrances to Hospice of Sacred Heart.

Robert Daniels

SPRINGFIELD — A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Springfield Moose Lodge for Robert Daniels of Springfield, who died May 13 of lung cancer. He was 75.

He was born July 3, 1935, in Camp Creek to Stillman and Alta Daniels. He married Shirley Kitachuk on Aug. 29, 1964.He attended college for two years and served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He worked as a glazier.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debbie Russell of Eugene; a brother, Corky of Coquille; and two grandchildren.Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Services in Springfield. Remembrances to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Margaret J. Carroll

 Margaret Jeanne Carroll of Springfield died May 14 of age-related causes. She was 96. A graveside service will be held in Bellingham, Wash.

She was born Jan. 17, 1915, in Bellingham to Joseph and Margaret Fyfe Houghton. She married George Carroll in 1939 in Entiat, Wash.; he died in 1998.She was trained as a ballerina and graduated from Western Washington College with a teaching degree. She taught school and ran a dance studio.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Cochran of Springfield; two sons, Joe of San Diego and Pat of Lynnwood, Wash.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Ianthe C. Baumgarner

Ianthe Clark Baumgarner of Eugene died May 14 of age-related causes. She was 90. No service is planned.

She was born March 29, 1921, in Yardley, Pa., to John and Beulah Clark Abrams. She married Thomas A. Baumgarner in 1940; he died March 17, 2000.She graduated from Yardley High School. She worked as a baker.

Survivors include two sons, Gene of Eugene and Glenn of Palm Bay, Fla.; a daughter, Anne Roland of Edmond, Okla.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Services in Springfield. Remembrances to Greenhill Humane Society.

SPRINGFIELD — Yvonne Vance-Allen of Springfield died May 11 at age 73. A celebration of life is planned later at the Chapel of Praise in Eugene.

She was born Jan. 8, 1938, in Harlingen, Texas, to Bill and Mary Vance.She attended Lane Community College at age 67 and learned to read, write and tell time.

Survivors include two brothers, John Vance of Eugene and Marvin Vance of Springfield; and a sister, Ruby Lethcoe of Springfield. Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Services in Springfield. Remembrances to the Chapel of Praise in Eugene.

Arnold U. Shields

Arnold U. Shields of Eugene died May 8 of age-related causes. He was 90.

He was born March 31, 1921, in High Point, N.C., to Walter and Mary Garrison Shields. He married Cherrie Harris in 1969 in Las Vegas. She died Feb. 21, 1998.He served in the Navy from Oct. 12, 1942, to Oct. 23, 1945, in the South Pacific aboard the USS Algorab. He worked in oil fields in the Taft and Bakers­field areas in California.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Kennedy of San Rafael, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Patty Donnell of Eugene; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Burial will be at Westside Cemetery in Taft, Calif.

Dorris M. Larkin

Dorris M. Larkin of Eugene died May 10 of age-related causes. She was 87. No service is planned.

She was born July 23, 1923, in Newton, Iowa, to Melvin and Grace Oehler Adams. She married Jack Larkin on Nov. 12, 1945, in Texas.She graduated from high school and served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Terry of Alexandria, Va., and Steve of Naples, Idaho; a brother, Don Adams of Sandy; three grand­children; and two great-grandchildren. VENETA — Faafouina “Frank” Leaeno of Veneta died May 5 of congestive heart failure. He was 78. A private family service is planned.

He was born July 5, 1932, in American Samoa. He married Joanne Lindley on Sept. 18, 1972, in San Jose, Calif.He attended some college. He worked as a bus driver for Santa Clara Transit District in California and as a minister.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Margaret of American Samoa, Linda Parks of Idaho and Gina Centero of Sacramento, Calif.; two sons, Jason Leaeno of Hills­boro and Jim Lindley of Sacramento; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

SPRINGFIELD — A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at 1761 E St. in Springfield for Winifred Violet “Winnie” Nelson of Springfield, who died May 10 of age-related causes. She was 80.

She was born Sept. 8, 1930, in Declo, Idaho, to Jerry and Lillie Durham McIntosh.She worked as a certified nursing assistant, caregiver and housekeeper.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Carson of Wapato, Wash., and Diane Nelson of Springfield; two sons, Clifton of Wapato and John of Eugene; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
