A memorial gathering will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Alton Baker Park shelters in Eugene for David P. Miller of Eugene, who died Aug. 10 of glioblastoma. He was 61.
He was born Oct. 24, 1949, in Hanover, N.H., to Mary Miller and Eugene Miller.
He worked as a sculptor and artist. He taught stonecarving at the University of Oregon stone carving workshop and the EMU Craft Center.
Survivors include his parents; three sisters, Linda Kenney of Pennsylvania, Deborah Gibson of Michigan and Amy Mihalj of Canada; and a brother, Peter of Pennsylvania.

SPRINGFIELD — A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Wayside Chapel in Springfield for Joann Loomis of Springfield, who died Aug. 12 of heart failure. She was 61. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield.
She was born Nov. 14, 1949, in Bison, S.D., to Elvia and Amy Ogdahl Veal. She married Richard Loomis on March 27, 1970, in Eugene.
She attended Chance Elementary School in South Dakota, El Capitan High School in Lakeside, Calif., and Lane Community College in Eugene. She worked as a Springfield School District bus driver, as a aide on the special needs bus and as a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Loren of Vernonia, Greg of Alvadore and Sam of Springfield; seven siblings, Loyd Veal of South Dakata, Alice Veal Posey, Gib Veal, Tim Veal and Ted Veal, all of Alaska, Bob Veal of California, and Clarence Veal of Montana; and two grandchildren. A son, Richard “Ricky” Loomis, died previously.

SPRINGFIELD — The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 18, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fifth Ward, in Springfield, for Sheila P. Dunn of Springfield, who died Aug. 14 at age 59. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. today at the church.
She was born June 26, 1952, in Los Angeles to Joseph and Irene Filtz Komatz. She married Dennis Dunn on June 4, 1983, in Grants Pass.
She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1980 to 1982 as an instructor and on a medical team. She worked on circuit boards and inspecting electronics at Liton Electronics.
Survivors include her husband; her father; two stepdaughters, Denise Taylor of Reno, Nev., and Angela Larson of Springfield; a stepson, Jarrod of Springfield; nine step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Donald Richardson Chase

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 18, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield for Donald Richardson Chase of Eugene, who died Aug. 14 of congestive heart failure. He was 91.
He was born June 6, 1920, in Boston to Donald and Claire Fowler Chase. He married Susie Elkow on Feb. 14, 1942, in Eugene. She died April 3, 2010.
He graduated from Stoneham High School in Boston. He served in the U.S. Army in Hawaii during World War II. He worked as a purchasing agent for about 15 years and worked at Weyerhaeuser from age 28 to 62.
Survivors include a daughter, Sister Dianne Burgess; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Gregory Gene “Greg” Norton of Springfield died July 30 at age 40.
He was born Sept. 15, 1970, in Eugene, to Gene and Janice Wood Norton.
He was a high school graduate and worked as a home health provider.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Mike Norton; and a sister, Paula Rowe.

John Dale Miner of Eugene died July 26 at age 85.
He was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Coburg. He married Diane Beairsto on Aug. 16, 1948, in Eugene.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunners mate 3rd class and was honorably discharged in 1945. He retired from Pacific Northwest Bell after 38 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike of Junction City and Kirby of Springfield; a daughter, Tamara Miner of Eugene; and five grandchildren.

Edith Cecilia Kellis of Eugene died Aug. 9 of age-related causes. She was 87.
She was born July 18, 1924, in North Dakota, to Raphael and Mary Stockert Schaaf.
She was a retired hairdresser and worked as a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Kellis of Springfield and Gary Kellis of Eugene; a daughter, Janet Smith of Sutherlin; two brothers, Edward Schaaf of Eugene and Raymond Schaaf of California; a sister, Anne Miles of Springfield; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kellis.

BROWNSVILLE — A gathering was held Aug. 16 in Brownsville for Susan Kay “Sue” Green of Brownsville, who died Aug. 7 of cancer. She was 56. An “old growth” gathering was held Aug. 16 in the Lowell/Oakridge area.
She was born June 7, 1955, in Howell, Mich.
She held an associate’s degree from Mount Hood Community College. She was an artist and naturalist and worked for the forest service in Lowell and Oakridge, and at the fish hatchery.
Survivors include her mother, Harriet Snow Green; a daughter, Tisha Huey of Eugene; a sister, Ginny Kliever of Brownsville; two brothers, Scott of The Dalles and Richard of Goldendale, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

SPRINGFIELD — The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield for James R. “Bob” Burdge of Springfield, who died Aug. 14 of complications following a stroke. He was 73. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born May 2, 1938, in Neptune, N.J., to Roe and Helen Brocklebank Burdge. He married Peggy Urspruch on Jan. 20, 1961, in Farmingdale, N.J.
He served in the U.S. Army in 1961 and 1962, stationed in Virginia. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and crane operator.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pat Dickinson of Sutherlin; a son, Jim of Springfield; a sister, Joyce Pyle of Neptune N.J.; and two grandchildren.

Alma A. “Dele” Boaen of Eugene died Aug. 6 of age-related causes. She was 98. No service is planned.
She was born Feb. 6, 1913, in Okra, Texas, to Daniel and Clara Martin. She married Jim Boaen in 1954 in Bloomington, Calif. He died in 1964.
She worked in the food service industry.
Survivors include a son, Bill Clacrk of Eugene; a sister, Polly Smith of Texas; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A son, James Bryan, a daughter, Janice Hilton, and a grandson, Gene Fuller, died previously.
