SPRINGFIELD — Derrold Eugene Barker of Springfield died Dec. 5 of cancer. He was 83. No service is planned.
He was born Jan. 5, 1928, in LaMar, Colo., to Ira and Evelyn Jennings Barker. He married Erma Slaten on Aug. 20, 1945, in Chelan, Wash. They later divorced. He married Sylvia Strongstad on April 20, 1983, in Reno, Nev.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1946. He worked as a painter on high-rise buildings, dams and bridges.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Betty Hooton of Eugene, Shirley Reed of Springfield and Carolyn Duke of Renton, Wash.; a son, Derrold Jr. of Kent, Wash.; a brother, Merle of Snoqualmie, Wash.; a sister, Devota Bennett of Stanwood, Wash.; and nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His first wife and a great-granddaughter, Danelle Reed, died previously.
