A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 28, at Bethel Temple Faith Ministries in Eugene for Ruby Mae Martin of Eugene, who died Jan. 18 at age 73. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield.

She was born July 21, 1938, in Lillie, La., to Lillie and Jesse Mack Bolton.

She worked as a caregiver and housekeeper.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Bolton Collins of Los Angeles; a son, Jessie of North Bend; a sister, Lillie Johnson of Eugene; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

SPRINGFIELD — A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 28 at Camp Creek Church in Springfield for Danny W. Jones of Springfield, who died Jan. 13 at age 54. A fellowship will follow at the church.

He was born Sept. 5, 1957, in Eugene to Gene and Carol Tofflemoyer Jones.

Survivors include his parents; and a brother, David of Springfield.

Ruth Arlene “Ruthie” Ruberg

Ruth Arlene “Ruthie” Ruberg of Eugene died Jan. 17 of pneumonia. She was 74. A private celebration of life is planned for a later date.

She was born April 7, 1937, in Potlatch, Idaho, to Alvyn and Ruth Andrew Poston. She married John Ruberg on Aug. 24, 1958, in Eugene.

She graduated from Eugene High School in 1955 and attended the University of Oregon. She was a homemaker and worked as a special education teacher in Clackamas for eight years.

Survivors include her husband; her mother, now of Eugene; two sons, Todd of Sammamish, Wash., and Scott of Portland; and two grandchildren.

Scott Anthony “Big Scott” Nelson

SPRINGFIELD — A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Springfield Armory for Scott Anthony “Big Scott” Nelson of Springfield, who died Jan. 12 of an apparent heart attack. He was 49.

He was born March 16, 1962, in Seattle to George and Darlene Myers Nelson. He married Brenda Lee on Aug. 27, 1988, in Eugene.

He graduated from Nathan Hale High School in Seattle. He worked as a collator operator for 31 years.

Survivors include his wife; his mother; a son, Brian of Springfield; a sister, Rebecca Levin of Edmonds, Wash.; and a brother, Thomas of Everett, Wash.

John L. Marcott

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Oregon Air and Space Museum in Eugene for John L. Marcott of Eugene, who died Jan. 13 of age-related causes. He was 84.

He was born March 22, 1927, in Hawkins, Wis., to John and Mabel Ellingson Marcott. He and his wife, Delpha, were married Sept. 1, 1950, in Blooming Prairie, Minn.

He served in the Navy. He was a general contractor in home construction.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jon of Anchorage, and Jay of Pleasant Hill; two daughters, Julie Marcott and Jill McCall, both of Eugene; a sister, Elaine Marcott Annear of Bend; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A family memorial service will be held Feb. 4 in McAllen, Texas, for Edna Malone of Eugene, who died Jan. 9 of pulmonary arrest. She was 55.

She was born April 5, 1956, in Weslaco, Texas, to Rosa Pena Villarreal.

She was a freelance artist.

Survivors include her mother; her domestic partner of 20 years, Robert Jackson; three sisters, Maricela Dupriest, Vilma Martinez and Marina Gorena; and a brother, Armando Villarreal Jr.

OAKRIDGE — Lela Bernice Johnson of Oakridge died Jan. 15 of age-related causes. She was 77. A memorial service is planned.

She was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Klamath Falls to Alvin and Lela Meade Johnson. She married John Johnson in Winston. He died previously.

A high school graduate, she worked as a housekeeper in motels.

Survivors include a daughter, Julie Riggs of Callao, Mo.; two sons, Andrew of Fresno, Calif., and Jacob; a sister, Joan Hess of Eugene; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Phyllis Elaine Billings

Phyllis Elaine Billings of Eugene died Jan. 14 of age-related causes. She was 82. A private service is planned.

She was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Marcola to Frederick and Mary Hagar Wright.

She graduated from Marcola High School in the late 1940s. She worked as a housekeeper at motels.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Billings of Eugene; a son, Michael of Eugene; and a brother, Dale Wright of Eugene.

Danny “Dan” Skaggs

COTTAGE GROVE — Danny “Dan” Skaggs of Cottage Grove died Jan. 16 of age-related causes. He was 79. A celebration of life is planned for a later date.

He was born June 17, 1932, in Roseburg to Marsh and Elizabeth Joyce Skaggs. He married Leah Thomson on Dec. 30, 1962, in Eugene. She died in April 2003.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean war. In his early years, he trained professional boxers. Later, he worked in sales.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel of Bend and Douglas of Cottage Grove; and four sisters, Jean Gage of Portland, Janice Finnegan of Dayton, Pat Taylor of Sioux City, Iowa, and Sandy Burnside of Georgia.

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Jungck Gibson

SPRINGFIELD — Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Jungck Gibson of Springfield died Jan. 11 of kidney failure. She was 95. A private service is planned.

She was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Duluth, Minn., to Harold and Lucile Miller Jungck. She married Leonard Gibson on June 19, 1937, in Portland. He died Feb. 13, 1996.

She held a teaching certificate from Monmouth College. She worked as an elementary school teacher for first- and fourth-grade students at Maple and Guy Lee elementary schools in Springfield. After returning to school in the late 1960s, she graduated with a master’s degree in education from the University of Oregon. She worked as a school librarian for Lane Educational Service District.

Survivors include three daughters, Lucile Patrick of Eugene, Adele Squires of Rochester, N.Y., and Terrina Wrona of Vashon Island, Wash.; a sister, Grace Rodiger of Eugene; seven grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
