A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield for Elaine Shirk of Eugene, who died Jan. 19 of lung cancer. She was 63.

She was born Sept. 27, 1948, in Salinas, Calif. She attended college and worked as a caregiver.

Survivors include two daughters, Juanita McCart of Eugene and Christal Waggoner of Monroe; two siblings, Bobby Cowan of Chowchilla, Calif., and Mickey Quiroz of Madera, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Her husband, Dennis Shirk, died previously.

Mildred Irene Richardson

SPRINGFIELD — Mildred Irene Richardson of Springfield died Jan. 22 of pneumonia. She was 88. No service is planned.

She was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Grant Center, Iowa, to Roy and Goldie Stratton DeForrest. She married Earl Richardson in 1969 in Reno, Nev. He died previously.

She attended Springfield High School and Eugene Business College. She was a secretary for the Rainbow Water District.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Maas of Walterville; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A son, Gary Daniels, died previously.

DRAIN — A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at North Douglas High School for Larry J. Reel of Drain, who died Jan. 21 of pulmonary hypertension. He was 70.

He was born Feb. 4, 1941, in Mount Carmel, Ill., to Clyde and Pearl Schwander Reel. He married Bonnie Roberts on May 7, 1965, in Drain.

He graduated from Drain High School in 1959. He was a millworker.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marelee Andes of Drain; a son, Ron of Drain; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Patricia Eleanor Girouard

A memorial Mass will be held at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene for Patricia Eleanor Girouard of Eugene, who died Jan. 19 at age 87. The family chose not to list the cause of death.

She was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Grafton, N.D., to Benjamin and Eleanor Wilkinson. She married Bernard Girouard in 1985 in Burbank, Calif. He died in 2007.

She graduated from Seattle University in 1948 with a nursing degree. She worked as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Seattle, then transferred to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, Calif.

Survivors include three stepchildren, Lorraine Stone, Denni Andrews and Tom Nolan; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

SPRINGFIELD — A private family service will be held later for Linda I. Hiatt of Springfield, who died Jan. 18 of pneumonia at age 67.

She was born June 4, 1944, in Afton, Okla., to Manse and Della Mae Hayhurst Turner. She married Ed Hiatt on April 25, 1998, in Reno, Nev.

She graduated from high school and attended beauty college. She was a beautician and homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Kevin Anderson of South Carolina and Brian Anderson and Jason Reed, both of Springfield; three sisters, Juanita Bowden of Portland, Eunice Bailey of Fernley, Nev., and Marlene Trumbly of Salem; a brother, Kenneth Turner of Salem; and three grandchildren.

Zoetta Marie Erickson of Eugene died Jan. 19 at age 59. The family chose not to list the cause of death. A private service is planned.

She was born April 13, 1952, in Baker City to Jack and Florence Yentsch Whittenberg. She married Wallace Erickson on March 20, 1976, in Eugene. He died previously.

She graduated from South Eugene High School in 1969. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Erickson of Junction City; a son, Kris of Eugene; a stepson, Shawn of Springfield; a brother, Paul Whitten­berg of Oakridge; and four grandchildren.

SPRINGFIELD — A celebration of life will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Red Lion Inn in Eugene for Levi Charles Stone of Springfield, who died Jan. 11 of complications from congestive heart failure. He was 30.

He was born Oct. 2, 1981. He married Emily Groshong on April 12, 2011, in Portland.

He worked as a lab assistant at Legacy Laboratories.

Survivors include his wife; his parents, Ted and Amanda Walkup and Tracy LeFevre; grandmother Marjorie LeFevre; a stepdaughter, Lola of Springfield; and a stepson, Abe, of Springfield.

Mary Frances Crocker of Eugene died Jan. 19 of age-related causes. She was 83.

She was born Aug. 15, 1928, in Shreveport, La., to Jamie and Faye Stinson Crane.

She graduated from high school in Texas. She worked as a receptionist for a newspaper in New York many years ago.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Crocker of Springfield and Mary Marvin of Highland, N.J.; a son, Claude of Newport; a sister, Ora Nale of Boca Raton, Fla.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ross Shaub “Buzz” McConnell

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at YaPoAh Terrace in Eugene for Ross Shaub “Buzz” McConnell of Eugene, who died Jan. 10 of age-related causes. He was 85.

He was born May 10, 1926, in Princeton, N.J., to Harry and Maude Shaub McConnell. He married Mary Elizabeth Fair in December 1951. She died in 1999. He married Laura Lee Sipe on Sept. 30, 2005.

He graduated from Bucknell University, University of Pennsylvania Medical School and Dickenson Law School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1945. He was a medical doctor and developed programs for those with intellectual disabilities and their families.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert of Alameda, Calif., Harry of Robina Town Centre, Queensland, Australia, and John of Eugene; a daughter, Mary McConnell of Seattle; a sibling, Marian Pfeil of Montoursville, Pa.; two stepdaughters in Washington; one stepson in Oregon; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. A son, Thomas Edward McConnell, died previously.

Joe Turner

Joe Turner of Eugene died Dec. 18 of complications of diabetes. He was 67. No service is planned.

He was born Sept. 10, 1944, in Alliance, Neb., to Frank and June Huddleston Turner. He married Kathy Buell on Sept. 11, 1971, in Eugene.

He attended Creswell High School and graduated from Willamette High School in 1962. He was a master bricklayer for 35 years, working for the Bricklayers Union No. 1.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jim of Plano, Texas; two sisters, Sharon Gonzales of Eugene and Mary Pilito of Creswell; three brothers, Mike of Eugene, Kenny of California and Tommy of the Philippines; and two grandchildren.
