Gloria Jean Holland of Eugene died Feb. 9 of age related causes. She was 82. A private memorial service is planned.

She was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Oregon to Grover and Norma Bullen Pumroy. She married James “Jimmy” Holland on Jan. 17, 1947, in Yuma, Ariz. He died Dec. 20, 1998.

She attended East Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, Calif. She worked as a school bus driver for the Eugene School District.

Survivors include a son, James “JR” of Marcola; a daughter, Beverly Baize of Grove Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her domestic partner, Charles Demmings, on May 8, 2011.

Arthur Joseph Darby

Arthur Joseph Darby of Springfield, died Feb. 15 at age 88.

He was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Dudley, Worcestershire, England, to Reginald and Annie Aingworth Darby.

He served in the British military for six years during World War II.

Survivors include a stepson, Kenneth of Portland; and a sister, Jacqueline Buker of Springfield.

Margaret “Peggy” Weinstein

Margaret “Peggy” Weinstein of Eugene died Feb. 12. She was 71. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene.

She was born Feb. 4, 1941, in Eugene to John and Rose Fix Fuller. She married Jack Weinstein on Sept. 2, 1962, in Eugene.

Margaret “Peggy” Weinstein obituaries She graduated from South Eugene High School and attended the University of Oregon for more than three years, until 1962. She worked at National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics as business manager from 1972 to 1986 and was executive secretary at Marist High School Foundation from 1990 to 1998.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jack and Mike, both of Eugene, and Thomas of South Kona, Hawaii; three daughters, Lisa Weinstein-Sprague and Julie Weinstein, both of Eugene, and Jayne Calmer of Beaverton; a brother, J. Michael Fuller of Dallas, Ore; nine grandchildren; one step grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Donald A. Roupe

Donald A. Roupe of Eugene died Feb. 10 of age-related causes. He was 89. No service is planned.

He was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Eighty Four, Pa., to Charles and Navada Christopher Roupe. He married Janie Ann Cherniski in 1946 in Pennsylvania.

He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in pre-med. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II, from 1942 to 1946. He retired from Southern Pacific after 30 years working as a switchman.

Survivors include three sons, Richard of Eugene, Don of Newberg and John of Portland; a brother, Harry of Washington, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

Wayne H. Sims

Wayne H. Sims of Eugene died Jan. 17 of age-related causes. He was 86. No service is planned.

He was born Aug. 26, 1925, in Arvada, Colo., to Reginald and Ella Sims. He and his wife, Barbara, were married Aug. 31, 1948, in Germantown, Tenn. She died in May 27, 2010.

He held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English literature from the University of Colorado and graduated in 1969 with a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Oregon. He served from 1943 to 1946 in the infantry in the European Theater. He was an English literature professor, president of Lewis-Clark Normal School in Lewiston, Idaho, and an academic adviser in Oregon State System of Higher Education.

Survivors include a son, Geoffrey of Cloris, Calif.; a daughter, Pamela Johnson of Portland; and two grandchildren.

James William Evans Sr.

VENETA — A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Veneta for James William Evans Sr. of Veneta, who died Feb. 16 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 73.

He was born Jan. 21, 1939, in Allegheny County, N.C., to Odell and May Eastridge Evans. He and his wife, Betty, were married in Eugene.

He grew up and went to school in the Carolinas. He served on an aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy. He worked all his life in delivery, production and maintenance for the dairy industry.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years; three sons, James Jr. of Eugene, Billy of Cottage Grove and Charles “Sonny” of Winnemucca, Nev.; a daughter, Debra Evans-­Rabon of Killeen, Texas; two sisters, Doris Patterson of South Carolina and Sonya Kindt of Aiken, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Private inurnment will be at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Eugene. Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield. Remembrances to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

Matthew Martin Blaser

Matthew Martin Blaser of Eugene, died Feb. 14 of age-related causes. He was 90. A memorial service will be held later at St. Paul Catholic Church

He was born Sept. 30, 1921, in Tillamook, OR, to Frank and Susanna (Weber) Blaser. He married Bette Mame Hays on June 17, 1945 in Tillamook.

Matt grew up and went to school in Tillamook. He was a life-long truck driver and was named the Oregon Teamsters 1980 Driver of the Year.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clint Blaser of Corvallis and Eric Blaser of Mesa, Arizona; three daughters, Becky Stiles of Eugene, Janet McCrea of North Bend and Nancy Clark of North Bend; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Brian, in November of 1994, and a great-granddaughter, Adalyn Moore, who passed the same day Matt did. Maybe he’s up in heaven right now, bouncing her on his knee.

Loretta Joan “Squeaks” Loeber

SPRINGFIELD — A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today, Feb. 11, at Glenwood Christian Church in Eugene for Loretta Joan “Squeaks” Loeber of Springfield, formerly of Hanford, Calif., who died Feb. 6 of cancer. She was 80.

She was born Feb. 3, 1932, in McFarland, Calif., to Chief and Vera Morris. She married Paul Loeber in 1976 in Lindsay, Calif. He died Nov. 1, 1989.

She graduated from Santa Cruz High School. She attended Mesa Community College in San Diego, majoring in hotel and motel management. She owned and operated Loeber Tours and Travel.

Survivors include two sons, Tim Taylor of Springfield and Gregory Taylor of Hanford; a daughter, Linda Levett-Pierce of Mount Shasta, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Barry Taylor, and a grandson, Christopher Levett.

SPRINGFIELD — Jack B. Dunham of Springfield died Feb. 8 of age-related causes. He was 89. No service is planned.

He was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Santa Monica, Calif., to Harry and Rose Hancock Dunham. He married Nettie “Boots” Dunham on March 6, 1942, in Los Angeles.

He graduated from Venice High School and served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and during the Korean War at Tongue Point Naval Base in Astoria. He was a manager at Pacific Power & Light.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harvey of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Jack Jr. of Eugene; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Catherine Anne Trumbly

Catherine Anne Trumbly of Springfield, died Jan. 24 of congestive heart failure. She was 86. A private family service is planned.

She was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Grants Pass to Stanley and Hazel Wagner Hanson. She married Troy Trumbly on Feb. 3, 1946, in Grants Pass. He died Dec. 19, 1986.

She graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1943. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Don of Springfield and Tony of Klamath Falls; a daughter, Ann Keele of Springfield; a brother, Paul Hanson of Redmond, Wash.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by grandson Adam Trumbly.
