Anna Lowry (1981-2025)
Anna (Yuryevna) Urasova Lowry, age 44, of Eugene, Oregon, died peacefully in her sleep at a local hospice home after a 10 week battle with a sudden onset, rapidly progressing abdominal cancer, during which she displayed incredible courage and unwavering hope, on September 1, 2025.
She was born in Krasnodar, (USSR) Russia in February, 1981 to Galina Vasilievna and Yuri Vasilievich Urasova. She had a mostly happy childhood, always loving flowers, adorable animals, and fashion. She lived with her mother after her parents’ divorce through the period of Perestroika, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and its aftermath. Anna was an academically gifted student who excelled in her primary school studies, graduating with highest honors in Russia, subsequently being accepted to Beloit College, Wisconsin with a “full ride” academic merit scholarship at age 18, where she graduated with honors, joining the Phi Beta Kappa society. She then entered graduate studies at Indiana University - Bloomington where she obtained her masters degree in Political Science, taught classes and assisted research for several years while earning her Ph.D. She also married her husband James Lowry there in 2007, and gave birth to their son Alexander in 2008. After her divorce in 2013, she relocated to Helsinki, Finland after securing a prestigious position as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Aleksanteri Institute, a Finnish think-tank. In 2018 she returned to the USA, settling in Eugene.
Anna was preceded in death by all four grandparents and her father Yuri Urasova, and is survived by her half-sister Anastasia, her mother Galina Urasova, and her son Alexander Lowry.
