Daniel Zemba, born on June 3, 1935, passed on May 27, 2026 in Eugene, Oregon.

Dan was the youngest of ten children born to Slovakian immigrants who settled in Ohio, in 1910. Helping on the family farm until the age of 12. Then in 1947, he moved with his parents to California, where two of his brothers and his sister had already relocated.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1962, on a fishing trip to Oregon with his brother, he was inspired to make this state his new home.

In 1968, on a blind-date, Dan met Mary Ellen Terpening, they married and built a life together. Dan is survived by his beloved wife Mary of 58 years. Their two daughters: Connie (Bill Peters) and Kathy (Jamie Large).

A skilled tradesman, Dan learned the painting trade from his brothers and started Zemba Painting in 1969. Over three decades he painted countless homes, teaching his daughters the fine art of the trade. They were his BEST summer crew. Other family members joined this crew over the years.

Dan enjoyed a rich life filled with hobbies and activities that brought him joy and connection. He played the button accordion, bowled, threw horseshoes, shot pool, took up golf at age 65. He joined in annual hunting trips with his wife’s family. He especially loved fishing, crabbing, camping, water skiing, and evenings around campfires—where he ALWAYS took charge of the fire stick. Known for his love of gatherings, hard work, & HAPPY HOUR CELEBRATIONS, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Veneta, Oregon followed by lunch on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
