David M Simonsen Obit Final

David M. Simonsen, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on May 19, 2025. He was born in Minot, North Dakota to Henry and Wilma (Miller) Simonsen, who preceded him in death.

Dave is survived by his wife and longtime partner of 45 years, Cheryll Corin Simonsen; Corin’s sons Shawn J Cohea and Christopher R Cohea; grandchildren Jaxson Cohea and Noah Cohea; Sisters Elaine Hansen, Linda McClelland and Laurel Skelton. He is also survived by his former wife, Annette (Simonsen) Fergason.

During Dave’s high school years his family moved from North Dakota to Eugene, Oregon. Dave proudly served in the Oregon National Guard for four years. He found a home in the wood products industry as a young man and worked for States Industries for over 40 years. He had been a millwright for many years at the time he retired. When Dave built something for a project, you could count on it being solid. He was known for his attention to detail and high quality of work.

Dave loved hunting. He and Corin were volunteer instructors for the Ore Dept of Fish and Wildlife Hunters Education program. Dave was also a Training Counselor for the NRA.

Dave was adventurous and lived life to its fullest. He loved flying his Cessna Cardinal and driving his Corvettes.

He and Corin enjoyed countless concerts and cross-country road trips on his beloved H.D. Road King Classics. Dave loved the annual Simonsen family reunions and a good part of his enjoyment in this life’s journey came from conversations had along the way with family, friends, and strangers.

Those that knew Dave will remember him as a man who wasn’t shy about speaking his mind, humorous , compassionate, and a man who was always thinking and drawing up a new project.
