Dorothy (Smeed) Cramer, 94, of Eugene, Oregon, passed away peacefully with her daughter Cindy at her side on May 24, 2026. Born and raised in Eugene, she was the youngest child of Herbert Stephen and Ethel Beatrice (Montgomery) Smeed. Her father, Herbert, was a carpenter by trade and collected 100 mantel and pendulum clocks and owned the Smeed Hotel in downtown Eugene, which was later designated a historic building. Her mother, Ethel, inherited the Springfield Hotel from her own mother, Rosa Montgomery. Dorothy often shared fond memories of visiting both hotels as a child, and those experiences became cherished stories she loved to tell throughout her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Doris Smeed Meyer; her brothers, Glenn, John, and Ralph Smeed; her husband, Richard “Dick” Cramer; her long-term partner, Terry Flaherty; her sons, Michael David and Bruce Cramer; and her granddaughter, Alisha Flaherty (surviving husband Donald) Rife.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Cramer Flaherty; daughter-in-law, Tracy Cramer; eight grandchildren: Chrystee Cramer-Houser, Bryan Cramer, Joshua (Brittany) Cramer, Shane (Dawn) Cramer, Naomi Cramer, Taura Flaherty, Troy Flaherty (Brett Ronneberg), and Thomas (Melissa) Flaherty; ten great-grandchildren: Rhyson, Chrystopher, Dalaynee, Gabe, Amber, Owen, Natalee, Mason, Tristan, and Madelyn; three great-great-grandchildren: Emelia, Sawyer, and Hudson; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were brightened by her joyful, graceful, caring, loving nature.

Dorothy lived a full and beautiful life, dedicating herself to her family and her church, The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. As one of the church’s founding members, she devoted herself to serving her parish for nearly 60 years and poured her heart into the children at the preschool held at her church where she lovingly nurtured them with kindness, patience, and faith.

Whether she was on the golf course, in the bowling alley, square dancing with her husband Dick at the local Daisy Chainer’s Square Dance Club, dominating board games and puzzles, or cheering on the Oregon Ducks football team, she always found joy and never missed an opportunity to add a touch of pink to any occasion.

She was well known for her famous potato salad and prize-winning apple pies. Each summer, she dedicated two to three weeks baking at least 100 pies to freeze; giving them away and sharing them at family potlucks throughout the year.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 22, at 3:00 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 3925 Hilyard Street, Eugene, Oregon. A reception will follow downstairs in the church. Guests are invited to wear a touch of pink in honor of Dorothy.
