Dr. Howard F. Curtis, 83, passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2026.

Howard was born September 10, 1942, in Portland OR to Howard F Curtis, Sr and Minnie G. Curtis.

Dr. Curtis graduated from OHSU Dental School in 1967 and then served seven years in the U.S. Air Force as a dentist. He bought a dental practice in Eugene in 1974, where he provided excellent care for his patients until retiring in 2012.

He served as president of the OR Dental Association and had also served as Editor of the Journal of the ODA; he was honored as AGD (Academy of General Dentistry) Dentist of the Year in 1994 and served as president of the Gnathology Northwest Dental Study Club. He was a member of the American Dental Assn, Oregon Dental Assn, and Lane County Dental Assn. He was a Fellow, Academy of General Dentistry; Fellow, American College of Dentistry; and Fellow, International College of Dentistry. He was also a member of the Gnathology Northwest Dental Study Club and the Seattle Study Club.

Howard was an avid lifelong learner, enjoying beauty, art and adventures. He was a creative cook (he perfected his paella recipe and passed that skill on to his son); loved gardening and learned the art of bonsai. His other hobbies included jewelry-making and antiquing (he was an eBay enthusiast!). Howard ran (and finished) seven marathons and loved coaching his daughter to her first marathon. He and Beverly enjoyed traveling the world and loved relaxing in Maui together. Above all, Howard loved taking care of people — his patients, friends, and family.

Howard is survived by his wife, Beverly Ringger; his children Chris (Christy) Curtis and Kathi (Steve) Holst; four grandchildren: Cecelia, Abby, Nico, and Nate; brothers: Victor and Curt; and his lifelong friend, David Dumas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Marjorie, Carol, and Chuck.
