In Loving Memory of
Edna Louise Spangler
August 29, 1943 – October 13, 2026
Edna Louise Spangler, lovingly known as Nanny, passed away on October 13, 2026, in Eugene, Oregon. Born on August 29, 1943, in San Jose, California, to Betty and Lawrence Rose, Edna built her life around the people she loved most: her family.
Strong-willed, generous, and fiercely devoted, Edna made her home the heart of the family. Sunday dinners, trips to Reno, holiday gatherings, and everyday visits brought her greatest happiness. Christmas was her favorite, with Halloween and Easter close behind. She loved cheering for the San Francisco 49ers and Oregon Ducks, a little retail therapy, and most of all, having her family together.
Edna was always thinking of others and gave generously, even when she had little to spare herself. Her family will miss the many daily phone calls, conversations, BINGO games, and the comfort of knowing she was always there. She was also famously known for bending the rules during card and board games, a talent her great-grandson Greyson seems to have inherited. And she fiercely denied being a natural redhead, keeping everyone guessing with her changing hair colors. These little quirks and her unmistakable spirit will continue to bring smiles for years to come.
Edna married John Michael Spangler Sr., and together they raised four children: Robbin Roderick, Frank Spangler, John Spangler Jr., and Michael Spangler. She is survived by Robbin and her husband, Carl; Frank and his wife, Darcy; John; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Trisha, Scott, Kristen, Stephanie, Devyn, Dillon, Jacob, and Cassandra; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Lawrence Rose; her sister and brothers; her husband, John; and her youngest son, Michael.
Edna leaves behind more than memories. She leaves family traditions, laughter around the table, holiday celebrations, and generations shaped by her love. The daily calls, family dinners, and holidays will never be quite the same without her, but her presence will live on in every story shared and every tradition carried forward. She was the heart of her family, a generous soul, and a woman whose love held generations together. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held at a date and location to be announced.
