EMSLEY CURTIS
Sept. 4, 1935 – April 13, 2024

Emsley Wayne Curtis passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on April 13, 2024, at the age of 88.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1935, in Raytown, Missouri to Glenn and Roberta Curtis. This is where he spent his youth and in 1954, at the age of 19, he enlisted in the Airforce and served until 1958. During this time when stationed at Johnsonville Airforce Base outside of Tokyo Japan, he met his wife, Teruko Curtis. They were married on June 27, 1956. After leaving Japan, he served his remaining years in the military in California. This is where he became a carpenter before moving to Oregon. He attended Lane Community College for a short time. He quickly moved up to being the President for the Local Carpenters Union before he became the Business Agent for the Carpenters Union. He spent many years in this role before his retirement. He was also involved with Ya-Po-Ah Terrace and served on the board for many years. In his younger years he built his home with his carpenter skills in Springfield, OR. After he retired, he moved to Leaburg, OR to his dream property to live out the rest of his years. He loved taking care of his property and enjoying the beautiful scenery surrounding him.

Emsley was loved by many. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to bring smiles and laughs to those around him. He loved working with his hands. He has even built furniture for his loved ones. Anything from coffee tables to bassinets and small furniture for his grandchildren. You could always feel his love in everything he did with and for his family.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Teruko Curtis; children David Curtis and Brenda Nelson; grandchildren Jacob Curtis, Rachel Lang, Logan Nelson, and Lukas Nelson; great grandchildren Alex Curtis and Madison Lang. He is also survived by his brother Bob Curtis. His family will be laying him to rest with a graveside funeral service at Springfield Memorial Gardens on April 23, 2024 at 11:00 am.
