Ethyl Louise
Carlock
Jan 30, 1930 — May 25, 2026
Ethyl Carlock passed peacefully on May 25, 2026, Memorial Day, at the age of 96, surrounded by the love of her family.
Ethyl was born January 30, 1930, in Los Angeles at home. She lived a life marked by independence, determination, humor, creativity, and a deep devotion to the people and animals she loved. She was the kind of person who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her friendships often spanned decades, and the outpouring of love in her final days was a testament to the remarkable life she lived. She was talented, creative, and never shy about offering an honest opinion. She deeply treasured her friendships, many of which lasted more than fifty years. Her friends often described her as special, talented, tough, loving, and unforgettable. Ethyl was known for her love of horses and actively rode her beloved horse, Shadow, until she was 90 years old. Shadow was 38 years old when she died on March 24, 2026.
Ethyl shared her life with her husband, Robert (Bob), for 67 years. Bob's passing in 2015 was on Veterans Day. Together, they raised three daughters: Kathy Jenson (Joe), Susan Skubic (Frank), and Karen Kimball (Chuck). Ethyl was a very proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
In her final days, Ethyl was able to spend precious time with those whom she loved most. Fortunately, a baby shower for her grandson Erik and his wife, Yassi, was held on May 2nd, where she was able to see all five of her Jenson grandchildren and her great-grandsons.
In the weeks prior to Memorial Day, many of Ethyl's beloved friends visited her and shared lunch or dinner with her. She had a very busy social schedule. On the morning of May 23rd, she fell and was taken to McKenzie-Willamette Hospital. A crack in a bone near the top of her leg resulted in a simple procedure to stabilize the bone. During this time, an extraordinary anesthesiologist, Dr. Penaloza, helped the family understand that Ethyl was experiencing end-stage respiratory failure. With that knowledge, the family was able to honor Ethyl's wishes and move her to the Pete Moore Hospice House, where she received exceptional care and spent her final hours in comfort, dignity, and peace.
The family takes comfort in knowing that she was able to recognize the voices of those who loved her, to feel their presence, and to leave this world exactly as she wished: peacefully, without suffering, and wrapped in the love of family and lifelong friends. Ethyl is survived by her daughters; her grandchildren, Rob Jenson, Julie Jenson, Will White, Mike Jenson, Erik Jenson, Kevin Jenson, and Charlie Kimball; and her great-grandsons, Theo and Johan (Hanzi) Jenson.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of The Archer, the staff at McKenzie-Willamette Hospital, Dr. Penaloza, and the extraordinary caregivers at the Pete Moore Hospice House for their compassion, honesty, and the wonderful care they provided.
Ethyl will be remembered for her strength, her independence, her humor, her love of horses, and the extraordinary way she made people feel loved.
With love, gratitude, and countless wonderful memories, we say goodbye to a truly remarkable woman.
