Rev. Frank J. Murray
June 25, 1933 - December 2, 2025
Frank was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the second of two sons to Roman and Marie Murray in 1933. Following the passing of Frank’s mother when he was 13, the family moved to Gary, Indiana where he graduated from Froebel High School. Following two years in the US Army, he entered college graduating with a BA degree from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois and then a BDiv degree from Bethel Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota.
Following ministering at churches in Chicago, IL, Minneapolis and Duluth, MN, he moved to a business career beginning in restaurant management in Milwaukee, WI, then executive positions in human resources and marketing. An offer from the corporate office at King’s Table brought him and his family to Eugene where he lived his last 52 years. He finished his career at Emporium Department Stores corporate office. He continued to preach as he held business positions in Minnesota and Oregon and well into retirement. Frank also volunteered as an Ombudsman for the State of Oregon and at the Eugene VA Clinic once retired.
At age 19, Frank committed himself to a life of following Jesus. He found great meaning in personal Bible study and daily devotionals and was deeply committed to his church and Sunday School. Over the years, he also shared his faith by leading Men’s Bible Study groups, offering guidance and fellowship to others.
Later in life he began writing for his own pleasure: limericks, essays and a few books of fiction. His writing actually began decades earlier as he created short, pithy love poems on Valentines Day for his wife, Shirley, whom he married in 1954 and deeply loved.
He is predeceased by his parents, older brother, John, and his wife, Shirley.
He is survived by his one child, Sandee Hallock who lives in Portland with her husband, Steve. He was a good dad, father-in-law, uncle and friend. He will be missed.
Frank passed on December 2nd following a brief illness. He faced death with confidence just as he lived his life.
Frank Murray will be honored with a memorial on February 17th at 2 p.m. at the Holiday Sheldon Oaks Retirement Home, 2525 Cal Young Road, Eugene. All are welcome.
