Gayle A. Hutchinson
June 10, 1951 – October 16, 2025
Gayle A. Hutchinson, the oldest of three daughters, was born in Eugene, Oregon, to Bill E. and Nancy Hutchinson. A fifth-generation Oregonian and second-generation Eugenean, Gayle had deep roots in the community she loved.
She graduated from Sheldon High School in 1969 and went on to attend the University of Oregon, where she initially planned to become a teacher. Along the way, however, her entrepreneurial spirit emerged. While studying in her front yard, she began offering resale clothing to passing students. The demand quickly grew, inspiring Gayle to purchase and refurbish a vintage home near campus, where she established one of the area’s earliest and most beloved resale shops—Rags to Riches. There, she consigned and sold upscale women’s clothing, later expanding to include men’s items due to popular demand.
In addition to her natural talent for business, Gayle discovered a love of gardening, inheriting her father’s green thumb. She was also deeply compassionate, dedicating time to volunteering with animal rescue organizations to help dogs and cats find loving homes. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling, particularly to Australia and England.
Gayle is survived by her sisters, Sue Hutchinson and Bobbie Jansen, as well as two nieces and a nephew whom she adored and loved to spoil.
She passed away too soon due to complications from FXTAS, an inherited neurological disease, and is already deeply missed by her family and friends.
Please sign the Andreason’s guest book in Gayle’s honor. Information regarding a memorial service will be posted there when available.
