Gerald (Jerry) Wayne Evans, of Junction City, OR, passed away on July 3, 2025. Born on April 26, 1942, in Choctaw County, AL, Jerry was the youngest of 14 children and the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a devoted husband to Karen and a loving father to Cheri (Jason), Gerry (Kellie), Victoria (Steve), and Christopher (Morgan).
Jerry was born into poverty in rural Alabama. His mother worked tirelessly to provide for him;
however, he often faced hunger. Determined to build a better life for his family, he seized the
opportunity to transfer to the American Can Mill in Oregon.
Jerry was exceptionally hard-working and dedicated to his job and the people at Georgia Pacific, where he worked for over 40 years at the Halsey mill. He was renowned for his ability to work on any machine and optimize its performance. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and his passions.
Outside of his family, golfing was Jerry’s second great love. He golfed whenever and wherever he could, including courses in Scotland, Ireland, Alabama, Tennessee, Washington, Hawaii, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Arizona. Jerry’s favorite golf course was Diamond Woods in Monroe, OR, and he was always happy to return to his “home course.”
Jerry’s hobbies and interests filled his leisure time. He enjoyed working on the farm, his classic cars, and playing his guitar. A broken toy often prompted the reassuring words, “Grandpa will fix it, he can fix anything.” His boundless love for family was a gift he shared with his children, leaving an indelible mark that will never fade.
Jerry was generous with both his time and skills. He would readily help friends repair their cars, lend his tractors or tools, and assist with home or machine repairs. During his retirement years, Jerry also volunteered for several non-profits. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; his children, Cheri (Jason), Gerry (Kellie), Victoria (Steve), and Christopher (Morgan); nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his former wife, Geneva Johnson; and his cherished niece, Kaye (James). He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. We find comfort in knowing that Jerry’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
