Gerald Weaver, age 92, passed away on Father’s Day, the 15th of June, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Jerry was born on November 24, 1932, in Jackfish, Ontario, to Walter & Dora Weaver. After graduating from high school in Schreiber, Jerry worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad as a “fireman,” where he shoveled coal into the engine; this helped foster his lifelong love of trains. He met his sweetheart, Beverley Anne Randa, at a high school dance, and they were married on December 1, 1956. They moved to Terrace Bay, where Jerry trained and worked as a Millwright. In 1965, Jerry, Bev, and their five children moved to Arcata, California, to work for Georgia Pacific. A few years later, the family moved to Eugene, Oregon and Jerry was hired to build the American Can Pulp and Paper mill in Halsey, where he remained until retirement.Jerry was a kind and quiet man who enjoyed taking his kids hunting and on long road trips back to Canada in the summer. He was fascinated by history, and particularly any history around trains. He was an avid hockey player in his youth and went on to referee hockey games at the Eugene Rink Exchange for several seasons.Jerry is survived by his wife, Beverly, four sons and one daughter, Richard (Debbie), Randy (Jennifer), Ken (Connie), Bryan (Jacqui) Weaver, Barbara (Randy) Marchbanks, 17 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held on July 26th at 1 pm at the Veneta Community Center at 25192 W Broadway Ave. Veneta, Oregon.
