Glenda Lou (Demorest) Jones, 85 passed away at home, September 20, 2025. She was born August 18,1940 to Wilbur and Ethel (Baker) Demorest in Wickes Arkansas. Glenda graduated from Springfield High School in 1958 and earned a BA in Psychology from Chico State University in 1976, continuing on to earn a post-graduate certificate in Gerontology.
She worked for several years as a Senior Advisor in Area Agency on Aging in Chico, California and was also director of the Widowhood Program in the Chico area. Upon returning to Oregon in 1991, she became a Licensed Massage Therapist and developed many friendships as a result.
She married Ronald Phillips in 1960; they were later divorced. She married Drew Jones in 1969. He died in 1983.
Glenda earned the title of “professional student” with her love of learning, and family joked about her having acquired enough school credits for multiple PHDs. She was a lover of nature, especially enjoying Oregon’s fall colors and it’s ocean beaches, as well as the beauty of Hawaii. When it came to friends, and family she was steadfastly; loving, caring, compassionate, and fiercely protective. She was a strong advocate of social justice even when she required a wheel chair to enable her to protest. Glenda had a calmness about her that made her a terrific listener and she had the ability to make people feel special. Animals received the same care and compassion with her, she supported the Humane Society, horse, and greyhound rescue organizations and she would require spiders found within the home to be released unharmed outside. A fan of the Oregon Ducks especially their football games. “Go Ducks”!! She also experienced great joy watching her grandson compete locally in football and track, making all his games and meets. Water aerobics were part of her weekly routine where she enjoyed socializing probably even more then the exercise.
Glenda never lost her wit or sense of humor, which were both quite sharp. A lover of art and music, she was still swaying and dancing to songs til the end. Glenda was predeceased by her parents and older sisters Jeanette and Georgia. Her survivors include a son, Mark Jones-Phillips and daughter, Heather Jones, step-son Jay Jones, grandson, Dustin Jones-Phillips, granddaughter, Nicole Jones and a brother, Vernon Demorest.
