Heike Domel, 81, of Brookings, passed away on May 2, 2026. She was born on June 30, 1944, in Dotzheim-Wiesbaden, Germany, to Paul Franz Karl-Heinz Domel and Anna Elizabeth Domel Klein.

Heike worked for a time as a Gestalt therapist and drug and alcohol counselor. She was an artist in every sense of the word, a master gardener, fiercely independent, and incredibly loving, but never sugar-coated anything. Her creativity, wisdom, strength, and compassion left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know her.

She is survived by her daughter, Janine Meier; her son, Daniel Sweig; her grandson, Skye Peters; her granddaughter, Sarah Bennett; her great-granddaughters, Althea and Alma, and her cat, Lang Lang.

She was preceded in death by; her aunt, Kaethe Klein; her mother, Anna Elizabeth Domel Klein, her uncle, Willie Klein; and her father, Paul Franz Karl-Heinz Domel.

A celebration of life will be held on June 30 at 1:00 PM at her home in Brookings.

Heike is profoundly missed and lovingly praised by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
