Jackie was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Ray and Evelyn Mahan on September 15, 1941. She grew up in Sioux City graduating from Central High School in 1959.
Jackie married the love of her life, Bill Triggs in 1960 and enjoyed 53 years together until Bill’s death in 2013.
Jackie found her calling through work with deaf and disabled children as a teacher’s aide in the Sioux City Public Schools, In 1978 they relocated to Yankton, SD where Jackie continued to work with special needs children at Webster and Lincoln Elementary Schools. 1984 she moved to Yuma, Arizona. Jackie continued working with special needs children at Rancho Viejo Elementary School. When Jackie wasn’t working, she was in the pool, enjoying time in San Diego or Mexico with Bill. Jennifer and occasionally friends or family would accompany them as well.
Upon leaving Yuma in 1990, Jackie returned to Sioux City, IA until 1996. That year she moved to Eugene, OR to be closer to her daughter Jennifer and granddaughter, Courtney, Jackie worked as a memory care activity director for a few years and continued to assist seniors in their homes until her retirement.
Jackie and Bill discovered St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Both grew up within the Lutheran faith but they felt a calling to Catholicism. They converted and were taken into the church where they both agreed “it felt like they had come home”.
Jackie died peacefully with her daughter, Jennifer by her side. Even though she had lived with Alzheimer’s for several years, Jackie continued to be the sweet, fun, vivacious person as always. Wanting to dance or sing, making sure everyone was happy and thanking the staff at Elderhealth and Living for their excellent care and kindness. It was a blessing Jackie still knew Jennifer and Jennifer’s husband John until the end.
Jackie is survived by daughter and son in-law, Jennifer and Dr. John Roberts of Eugene, Step-sister and husband, Karen and Glen Baker of Sioux City, step-sister and husband, Sally and Ed Murdoch of Lyons, NE. Plus many nieces and nephews.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Triggs, only grandchild, Courtney LaFranchi, step brother Brian Baker and her parents.
