John David Wilson, Jr., MD of Eugene died on November 10, 2025, of acute myelogenous leukemia at Pete Moore Hospice House. He was 79 years old.

Known as Jack to family and childhood friends, John was born July 23, 1946, in San Diego, California to Mary F. Wilson and John D. Wilson, MD. He grew up in Evansville, Indiana and graduated from high school there in 1964.

John attended Indiana University in Bloomington, where he met his wife-to-be, Vicki. They were married in 1968 when John was in his second year at IU Medical School in Indianapolis. John began his internship at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania in 1971. He completed his internal medicine residency at York in 1975, and from 1975 to 1977 served as Chief of Hospital Services at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring, Texas. In 1978, John completed an infectious disease fellowship at Oregon Health Science Center in Portland and then began his internal medicine practice at Eugene Hospital and Clinic. He was the first infectious disease specialist in the area. In 1987, John completed an AIDS training sabbatical at San Francisco General Hospital, and over the decade and a half that followed, treating patients with HIV/AIDS was a significant part of his medical practice. He entered private practice in 1992 and opened the Travel Clinic, where he provided immunizations and other services to international travelers. He retired in 2019.

John enjoyed spending time with family and friends in the Oregon outdoors, especially in the Cascade mountains. John loved basset hounds, watching classic films, and listening to the music of Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, and Neil Young. He was a student of science and history and loved to build things, including toys for his grandson.

Survivors include his wife Vicki, daughter Sarah Wilson and grandson Pablo Cuéllar-Wilson of San Francisco, California; sisters Mary Kathryn Andersen (Robert) of Crawfordsville, Indiana and Lynn B. Wilson (Sharon Taba) of Honolulu, Hawaii; and his brother, Brian Wilson (Christy) of Henderson, Kentucky. John was preceded in death by his daughter Kate (Scott Wales) in 2009.

Inurnment will be at the Eugene Masonic Cemetery. An informal gathering to remember John will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the East Hall of the Campbell Community Center.
