Patty Mathews 91, beloved Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, was received into the
arms of Jesus January 13, 2025, with her son Gary at her side. In the weeks prior to her
death, she spent precious time filled with love, memories and laughter with her sons,
grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was born on September 23, 1933, in Dolan
South Dakota, to Walter and Millie Ebbert. Her mother passed just weeks after Patty's
birth. She remained in South Dakota with her aunt, and her family moved west. When
she was 4 years old, she joined her father and 5 siblings in Oregon where she would
spend most of her life.
Patty grew up on Camp Creek and attended Camp Creek School. She worked in the
mint and bean fields and raised a bummer lamb to earn money for school clothes. After
graduating from Springfield High School, in 1950, she went to secretarial school. She
started work as a secretary for a lumber broker, and later at the University of Oregon’s
Physical Education Department.
It was during high school that Patty met Del, whom she married on October 10, 1954.
Their 70-year journey together took them to North Carolina while Del served his country,
however their hearts belonged in Oregon where they returned to raise their family.
She was a devoted Mom to her four sons. Patty poured herself into her family with
unwavering and unconditional love. She loved to garden, can, and bake. She always
had a batch of cookies ready for anyone who dropped by. She was the glue that held
the family together. She became an adored Grandma and Great Grandma whose love
created lasting memories.
In addition to raising her boys, she helped with the family dairy business. Patty also
worked multiple jobs before retiring from the City of Eugene 1989. Retirement did not
slow her down. She built a successful Shaklee business where she made lifelong
friends. She continued to run her business until her passing.
Patty was preceded in death by her husband Del and son David. She is survived by her
sons Greg (Joan), Gary (Letty), and Mark (Erin), and by many Grandchildren and Great
Grandchildren.
The legacy that she leaves us, is that she loved Jesus and wanted her family and
friends to know his love too. If you were family or friend know that she was praying for
you.
A celebration of life honoring Patty will be held at 2:00 pm February 22, 2025, at
Springfield Faith Center located at 600 Hayden Bridge Rd, Springfield Oregon.
