Nancy Jane Ulrich

January 9,1955 - September 7, 2025

Nancy Jane Ulrich left this earth peacefully on Sunday, September 7th, surrounded by her sister Betsy, loving friends, and her favorite music. She was a youthful 70 years old. The world is a little less exuberant, joyful and colorful with her passing.

Nancy was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Charles and Jane Ulrich. She attended local schools in Kenosha, and graduated from Lake Forest High School (IL) in 1973. She moved to Eugene, Oregon in the late 70’s. Nancy was a “Jane-of-all-trades”, with many skills and talents she was always willing to share. Nancy earned an associate degree at Lane Community College. Her classes there in cabinetry and construction led to her restoring first her house, and then a number of others that became rental properties. She worked for many years as a Maintenance Technician for the University of Oregon, solving a myriad of problems/challenges in campus housing. Upon her retirement, Nancy built herself a house in Naalehu, a small town on the southern most tip of the island of Hawaii. She loved the slow pace and warm weather, raised chickens, welcomed friends and family, snorkeled, hiked, and enjoyed the sunrise views from her lanai. She came back to Eugene every year for a visit, especially for the Oregon Country Fair, and spent her last two months in Eugene with her many friends.

Nancy will be forever known for her contagious smile and laugh; her sweet nature and child-like curiosity; her adventurous spirit and generous heart; her love of animals (especially her beloved cats Fred and Wilma) and music. And most of all for how she loved her friends and family fully. She will be sorely missed by so many.

Nancy is survived by five siblings Charles Jr., Mark (Carol), Elizabeth Spencer (Charlie), James, William (Debbie) and brother-in-law Mark Caldwell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles Sr. and Jane, sister Dorothy, and sisters-in-law Theresa and Janet.

There will be a Celebration of Life in October in Eugene. We will post the details as they unfold.
