Richard Bandy

January 3, 1941 — April 29, 2025

Richard “Dick” Sidney Bandy went home to be with the Lord on April 29, 2025. Dick passed on surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born January 3rd, 1941 in Watertown, New York to Joseph and Vivian Bandy. His family relocated to Ohio and then to Seattle, Washington where, as a young adult he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Dick proudly served as a Marine from 1958 until 1965, which included serving oversees in the Philippines as in Infantryman in the 5th Marines and in the 1st Recon Battalion in Vietnam. After which he began a 36-year career with Montgomery Ward. Beginning as a Refrigeration Technician, moving up the ranks to the position of Area Manager, then he became the Regional Manager from which he retired. Throughout his life, Dick enjoyed outdoor activities like water skiing, camping, snow skiing and fishing. Dick loved the life he shared with Helen, his wife of 35 years. He embraced their farm life of raising Welsh ponies. Upon their retirement they built their dream home on 10 acres in Powell Butte, OR. He took tremendous joy in building and landscaping projects- Horse barns and riding arenas; gardens, sheds and planter boxes; but most of all his lawns which some joked could be identified on Google earth because they were so perfect. Dick also loved to help people- neighbors, grandchildren, church members, anybody who needed something fixed or built. When it was time to downsize, they built a new home in Creswell to be closer to their family. Dick loved the neighborhood of The Reserve and enjoyed holding court for the neighbor guys in his “man cave.”

Dick is survived by his loving wife Helen, sons Joe Bandy (Suzi) and Rick Bandy (Michele), daughter Shauna Hammond (Kent), stepson Rick Gately (Shauna), stepdaughter Lynne Gately (Tim), sisters Beth Sloan and Terri Gardin (Jim), and 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Bandy, mother Vivian Smith, wife Toni, sister Karen Davis, and granddaughter, Kristina Hammond.

Dick loved the Lord and pursued a relationship with Jesus Christ. He was a member of Powell Butte Christian Church in Central Oregon and Living Faith Assembly in Cottage Grove.
