Richard (Rick) Herman passed away on April 8, 2025 at his home, surrounded by family.

Rick was born September 29, 1939 in Garden City, Kansas to Lucy and Clem Herman Sr. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and his son, David Herman. He is survived by his wife, Deanne, of 41 years, his daughter and son in law, Lacy and Myles Prevost, his son and daughter in law, Trevor and Katherine Herman, granddaughter and grandson in law, Cassidy and Sean McCartney, granddaughter Londyn Prevost, grandson Silas Herman, great grandsons Jayce and McKay McCartney, his bonus grandson Ethan Patterson, his brother Clem and a host of nieces and nephews.

Rick moved to Oregon with his family at a young age. He attended St. Alice Elementary, Maple Elementary, Springfield Middle and graduated from Springfield High in 1958. Rick was a multisport athlete, and was inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

Rick was an All-State football player in 1957, an All-State Baseball player in 1958, and was on the first State Metro High School All Star Baseball Team. Rick was offered a full ride baseball scholarship to both Southern Oregon University and the University of Oregon. Rick was a US Army Allstar in baseball and basketball, and later went on to be a Pro Scout for the Cleveland Indians Baseball Organization. Rick was an avid sports fan, attending many local games in the Eugene/Springfield area for many decades. Rick was a volunteer for the NEHS Football Chain Crew, helped many years at the Children's Miracle Network Golf Tournament, and could always be found at the Challengers' Baseball Stadium.

Rick retired from Ray's Food Place in Veneta where he worked for more than 30 years. He was a long time parishioner of St. Catherine's church in Veneta, Oregon.

Rick enjoyed all things sports, playing poker with family on Saturday nights, camping trips to Sunset Bay, trips to Reno, trying his luck at the Oregon casino's, and Disneyland trips with family. He loved taking his grandkids to the "Golden Park", telling "Dad Jokes" and trying to convince everyone that he was a true Legend. Rick also enjoyed his mornings spent with the "old guys" for coffee and donuts.

Rick will be remembered as a funny, loving, and caring son, brother, husband, dad, uncle, papa, friend and Legend. His humor, stories, and love for his family will be missed by all.

Rick requested that his family not hold a funeral. He will be interned at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon where his family will hold a private service. A celebration BBQ will be held at a later date.
