Robert "Bob" Schmitt of Springfield, Oregon passed peacefully at home Friday morning, March 6, 2026 after a battle with cancer. Bob was born on July 14, 1949, just a few minutes after his (much older) twin brother Richard Schmitt. He married his loving wife Betty on December 22, 1977 and one of his few regrets was that they wouldn't get to celebrate their 50 year anniversary together.

Bob spent most of his career as a general contractor, building and remodeling everything from family homes to manufacturing plants and creating a wide circle of clients turned friends wherever he went. An accomplished pilot, Bob flew both float planes in Alaska and helicopters in Oregon, a passion which earned him the nickname "Ace." In his semi-retirement, Bob turned his hand to small engine repair, something he'd always liked but never had enough time to properly enjoy. He also had more time to dote on his dogs. From taking car rides because the dogs "looked bored" to daily pie and ice cream, his dogs were more treasured family members than pets.

In life and in death, Bob was an overachiever- always looking to learn a new skill, build something new or fix whatever was broken. His kindness, intelligence and patience will be missed by all who knew him. Bob is survived by his wife Betty and daughters Tina, Ivy, Bri, Tami and Vanessa. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local animal shelter to pass on some of his love.
